Fans are especially excited about the upcoming release of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight because it’s been a long time since TT Games released a new game. TT Games and Traveller’s Tales, its studio, are well-known for making LEGO video games – they’ve created over 20 different titles since they started working with the LEGO brand. The new game will tell a LEGO-inspired story featuring Batman, bringing together adventures from across the DC universe.
The upcoming LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is currently scheduled to release in 2026, marking the longest wait between games in the history of Traveller’s Tales. Their previous title, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, received positive reviews when it launched in 2022. This four-year gap is unusual for the studio, which previously released new games every year.
Before the recent four-year gap, the longest wait between Traveller Tales games was three years, between *The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame* and *LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga*. Previously, TT Games released a game every year starting in 1993, until 2023. They were even known to release multiple games in a single year – for example, in 2011 they launched *LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars*, *LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game*, and *LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7*.
While TT Games is well-known for LEGO games, they aren’t the only studio working with LEGO. In 2024, Studio Gobo, the LEGO Group, and Guerrilla Games teamed up to release *LEGO Horizon Adventures*, a game inspired by Guerrilla’s *Horizon Zero Dawn*. More recently, Light Brick A/S and Annapurna Interactive partnered with LEGO on *LEGO Voyagers*, set to release in 2025, ensuring fans have a steady stream of new LEGO gaming experiences.
Traveller’s Tales is famous for making LEGO video games, and they’ve already created games based on popular franchises like Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and Marvel. There are still many other franchises that could be turned into LEGO games in the future.
Why Did LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Take So Long?

For years, TT Games consistently released a new game every year. It’s now unclear why they’ve started spacing out their releases further, though it’s worth remembering that even 3-4 years between games is still a fairly fast turnaround in today’s game development landscape.
The main reason these games took longer to develop is their scope. Both *LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga* and *LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight* were much more ambitious projects than previous *LEGO* movie games. *The Skywalker Saga*, in particular, aimed to include all nine *Star Wars* films in a single game, offering players around 20 hours of gameplay.
While the full scope of *LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight* isn’t known yet, trailers and character designs suggest the game will draw from Batman stories spanning back to the 1990s films, aiming to include a wide range of the character’s history. The game is also introducing new features for LEGO titles – like an open world, drivable Batmobiles, and more complex combat – which likely extended the development time.
Even though fans are waiting a while for *LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight* from TT Games, a longer development time could mean a really great game that offers hours of fun, making the wait worthwhile.
