Paramount+ just dropped the first trailer for its new comedy, *Crutch*. The show features , who fans may recognize as Calvin’s brother from the original series.
The first trailer for the *Crutch* series offers a preview of what viewers can expect from *The Neighborhood* spinoff. It shows Francois “Crutch” Crutchfield (played by Morgan) happily watching his grown children succeed in Harlem, until they unexpectedly move back home with their families.
Alongside star Morgan, the series *Crutch* features Adrianna Mitchell, Michael Rishawn, Lawrence Stallings, Josiah Rivera, Braxton Paul, Adrian Martinez, and Kecia Lewis. Fans of *The Neighborhood* will also be excited to see Cedric the Entertainer and Tichina Arnold reprise their roles as Calvin and Tina Butler. Interestingly, Morgan played Calvin’s brother Curtis on *The Neighborhood*, but in *Crutch* he’ll play Calvin’s cousin, which could lead to some fun moments with both characters.
Created by Jim Reynolds, *The Neighborhood* first aired in 2018 and quickly became a popular comedy. The show features Max Greenfield as Dave Johnson, a well-meaning but somewhat clumsy veteran who moves to a Los Angeles neighborhood with a majority Black population and gradually becomes part of the community. *The Neighborhood* is continuing into its
The Neighborhood Had Another Spinoff in The Works
As a big fan of their characters, I was really disappointed to hear the planned spinoff featuring Sheaun McKinney and Marcel Spears as Malcolm and Marty Butler was officially canceled this April. I recently read an interview where someone involved acknowledged how tough things are for TV shows right now, and they admitted they were genuinely excited about the project, which made the news even harder to take.
He explained that they developed the concept and specifically filmed it using an existing episode of *The Neighborhood*. The actor pointed out a change in how TV shows are made, noting that networks are moving away from fully producing pilot episodes to test new ideas. “Networks aren’t investing as much money upfront,” he said. “They’re more focused on developing ideas and seeing if they work. We were really happy with what we created, but ultimately, the budget couldn’t cover it.”
All eight episodes of Crutch will premiere on Paramount+ on Nov. 3.
