Slow Horses Season 7 Gets Exciting Filming Update

The show is gearing up for a new season. Gary Oldman, one of the show’s main actors, has revealed that filming for Season 7 will start shortly.

Gary Oldman recently shared that filming for Season 7 of *Slow Horses* will begin this October. He explained that Season 5 was Will Smith’s final appearance on the show, and a new team was brought in. They’ve already completed filming for Season 6, and the team will start work on Season 7 at the end of October with yet another new group of people.

Based on Mick Herron’s novels and adapted for television by Will Smith, *Slow Horses* features Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, a blunt and often rude MI5 agent who manages the team at Slough House. Slough House isn’t a place for successful spies; it’s more like a professional dead-end where the agency sends agents who’ve made errors, but not quite enough to be fired.

Lamb seems like a messy and unsuccessful agent, but that’s all an act. He maintains this appearance to blend in and work on important tasks without drawing attention to himself. The cast includes Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Sasia Reeves, Christopher Chung, Sophie Okonedo, and Rosalind Eleazar.

Since it first aired, the series has received high praise for its fast-moving plot, suspenseful storytelling, and excellent acting. As of today, *Slow Horses* has been nominated for numerous awards and has won 16 in total, including Best Drama Series at the 29th Satellite Awards and a Rose d’Or award in 2024 for Gary Oldman’s performance.

Will Smith Stepped Away From Slow Horses

Smith announced in July that he would be leaving the show after its fifth season. He explained that while Season 5 doesn’t mark the end of the series entirely, it does bring certain storylines that began in Season 1 to a close. He felt this was a natural point to pass the show on to someone new, adding that it’s a demanding job and he wanted to maintain his enjoyment of the process.

Smith explained there are two main concerns. First, he worries about running out of fresh ideas or starting to repeat himself. Second, the demanding schedule could become overwhelming over time. He feels maintaining his current pace might prevent him from delivering his best work. He stressed this isn’t about thinking he’s outgrown the show, but rather wanting to ensure he continues to be at the top of his game for *Slow Horses*.

Slow Horses is currently streaming on Apple TV+.
