Taylor Swift exudes provocative showgirl glamour in daring rope dress and brunette hair in new Fate of Ophelia music video

Taylor Swift unveiled several new hairstyles when she released the music video for ‘The Fate of Ophelia‘ on Sunday, much to the delight of her fans.

The new music video is the first to be released from the singer’s latest album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ which launched on Friday.

The video makes many references to Ophelia, the heartbroken character from Shakespeare’s Hamlet who eventually loses her mind and dies by drowning.

In one memorable moment, the Grammy-winning artist showcased a strikingly different look – a glamorous, daring style reminiscent of a showgirl. She wore a revealing dress made of rope and a short brunette wig, a significant change from her usual long blonde hairstyle.

The song and its accompanying video include several references to Taylor Swift’s fiancé, Travis Kelce, the 35-year-old NFL player. In one scene, Swift even catches a football, and the lyrics mention a commitment to ‘your team.’

Okay, so the video immediately draws you in with Taylor as Ophelia – it’s like stepping into a painting! She’s wearing this gorgeous white dress, and the scene is so dreamy – she’s lying in this almost fake-looking stream, completely surrounded by flowers. It’s a really beautiful, artistic opening.

She softly sings about hearing someone calling for her, wanting to find her by herself. The lyrics say this person is known for setting things on fire, and enjoys watching the destruction unfold.

The star then gets up and moves to pose in yet another painting.

Almost immediately, the scene changes. Taylor opens a door and suddenly appears with a short blonde wig, reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe, and a red burlesque costume. She’s now among a group of dancers dressed the same way, backstage.

In the part leading up to the main chorus, she sings about how she was deeply sad and felt like she was sinking until she met someone. She says she was only focused on herself, promising loyalty to no one but herself, but then this person came along and brought joy into her life.

Next, Taylor and her dancers perform on stage, with Swift sporting long, dark brown hair and bangs.

In the song’s chorus, Taylor Swift thanks her partner for rescuing her from a tragic end, referencing the character of Ophelia.

She sang about how, while she was isolated in her tower, the other person was busy developing their abilities. Now, everything is clear to her.

One late night, you rescued me from despair, saving my heart from a tragic end like Ophelia’s.

She then compares her love interest to a football star, singing about complete honesty and devotion. She pledges her loyalty to him and his energy, saying his past doesn’t matter because she now ‘owns’ his attention. She hints at a passionate and unforgettable night together.

Taylor Swift reappeared with long, reddish-brown hair and a shimmering dress, joining a group of actors performing on a ship-themed stage.

The singer reappears, this time in a shimmering blue swimsuit and cap, and performs with dancers on a stage designed to look like a pool.

The setting shifts to Taylor Swift, wearing a rope dress, while a makeup artist touches up her look.

She sings about a cherished memory, saying only one person holds the key to unlock it. She feels rescued from a difficult past, now free from sadness and lies, all thanks to someone who came into her life.

She is then lifted into the air via her rope dress.

The video cuts to Taylor wearing a striking orange burlesque set, highlighting her toned stomach.

The outfit is paired with a dramatic feather head piece and matching shawl around her shoulders.

Oh my gosh, it happens *again*! There she is, Taylor, absolutely glowing in this tiny, sparkly dress and the most amazing light blue fur jacket. They’re literally pushing her down a hallway on a table – can you even imagine?! – and then, effortlessly, she *catches a football*! It’s just… perfection. I swear, everything she does is magical.

The video concludes with a shot displayed over the artwork for her latest album. The album cover shows the artist wearing a shimmering silver mini-dress while in a bathtub.

‘You saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia, the singer closes out the song.

Taylor Swift’s new album features many allusions to Shakespeare, the famous and highly-respected playwright considered one of history’s greatest writers.

The singer shared that she quickly explained the story of Shakespeare’s *Hamlet* to Kelce, since he hadn’t read it before.

In August, while appearing on the New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce, Taylor Swift revealed the first song on the vinyl would be called ‘The Fate Of Ophelia.’

The cover art reminded me of John Everett Millais’ famous 1851 painting of Ophelia, showing her drifting in a river right before she drowns.

Swift also mentioned to Jason that her boyfriend probably hadn’t read *Hamlet*, but she had explained the play to him.

The athlete joked, ‘Please don’t let my eighth-grade English teacher find out I didn’t actually read the assignment – I was supposed to!’

After his brother poked fun of him, Kelce replied, ‘It’s alright, I watched the Lion King.’

Swift finished by pointing out that the Disney movie ‘The Lion King’ clearly draws inspiration from Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’.
