Wicker, a new romance movie starring Olivia Colman, has some exciting news about who’s joining the cast and when filming will happen – here’s a complete rundown of this interesting film.
The movie, adapted from Ursula Wills-Jones’s short story The Wicker Husband, features Colman as a “smelly fisherwoman” whose unusual relationship causes shock and envy among the residents of her traditional town (according to Deadline).
So, remember Wicker? It was announced way back in October 2023, and originally Dev Patel was supposed to be a co-lead with Colman. But I just saw an update from Variety – they’ve recast that role! It’s a bit of a bummer, but I’m still curious to see who they’ve chosen. Hopefully, it doesn’t change the game too much.

Alexander Skarsgård is now taking over the role previously held by Patel, and Peter Dinklage and Elizabeth Debicki are the newest additions to the cast. It’s also been reported that filming finished last month in Budapest, meaning we might not have to wait too long for the film’s release.
Described as a “twisted [and] unconventional romance,” the story centers around Colman, who is a “smelly, single and perpetually ridiculed fisherwoman living on the outskirts of a village by the sea.”

Growing tired of her narrow-minded and unpleasant neighbours, she decided to have a husband made from wicker by the local basket weaver. This unusual relationship quickly caused outrage, jealousy, and a great deal of chaos.
Wicker is directed by Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson. David Michôd, an Australian filmmaker famous for Animal Kingdom and Christy, will be producing the film.
This film follows Olivia Colman’s recent role in The Roses, an unconventional and darkly funny romantic comedy-drama. In it, she plays a couple constantly at odds with Benedict Cumberbatch.
Even though the characters in the story argue frequently, the two actors recently talked to Digital Spy before the movie came out last month. They explained that taking on the project was a risk, considering their close friendship outside of work.

Colman admitted there was some risk involved, wondering if this could end their friendship or if they wouldn’t enjoy working together anymore. He added, “I really valued having a consistent play partner who was always available.”
There wasn’t a single difficult moment, really. Everything felt instant and wonderful. I just adore making eye contact with Ben and thinking, ‘Oh, this is going to be a fantastic scene,’ the actor explained.
“I really appreciate having someone I can completely rely on,” Cumberbatch explained. “If I was struggling or unsure about something, or if I wanted to try a new approach, we always had a very honest and open conversation. It’s much easier to make progress quickly when you’re working with a friend.”
Wicker has no release date.
