New Evangelion Release Unites Mecha & Sanrio for a Kawaii Angel’s Thesis

A new event showcasing the latest collaboration between Evangelion and Sanrio Characters is being held at the TOPPA!!! BASE AKIBA pop-up store in Akihabara Station. This partnership has been delighting fans for over ten years! A variety of items featuring popular Sanrio characters will be available for purchase. The event, playfully dubbed a “Kuromi angel’s thesis,” is scheduled to run until the end of the month.

The TOPPA!!! pop-up store, managed by the Toppan Corporation, is hosting the latest Sanrio/Evangelion collaboration. This time, the characters are paired as follows: Shinji Ikari with Cinnamoroll, Kaworu Nagisa with Kuromi, Rei Ayanami with My Melody, Asuka Langley Soryu with Pompompurin, and Mari Illustrious Makinami with Hangyodon. A wide variety of merchandise featuring these unique pairings will be available, along with Evangelion x Hello Kitty items. The goods draw inspiration from various designs and elements of the Evangelion anime, including a pin that reimagines the NERV symbol with a cute Hello Kitty twist. Even Angels are present, but with a significantly cuter appearance. The monstrous Angels themselves have also been given a makeover, now sporting Hello Kitty’s signature ribbon bow.

The collection includes various items like badges and acrylic cards showcasing the characters together, as well as acrylic plates and keychains. You can also find scarf towels and a unique mobile case, with these items becoming available at Sanrio stores soon. It’s a surprisingly cute combination of two very different brands, and the timing couldn’t be better! 2025 is a milestone year for many Sanrio characters, including Little Twin Stars.
