Cake-faced 90s sitcom star looks unrecognizable as she ditches the heavy eyeshadow for an LA errand run… can you guess who?

She appeared in many popular sitcoms during the 90s, consistently captivating audiences with her natural charm and memorable presence. She had a knack for making every scene she was in more engaging.

She first gained notice as a comedic actress playing a very forward town librarian. She immediately grabbed attention with her exaggerated, energetic performance, whether she was attempting to flirt with a group of priests on vacation or cleverly using her charm to influence judges.

She really became well-known for her role in a popular, long-running show. She played the main character’s biggest rival – a very annoying secretary who kept her job by threatening to sue if she was fired.

Over almost nine years and 233 episodes, her bold comedic approach and distinctive blue eyeshadow created a character audiences loved to hate – making her truly unforgettable.

Even though she hasn’t been acting as much lately, she still demonstrated her skill and expertise in various TV shows.

Can you guess who?

It’s Kathy Kinney!

Former The Drew Carey Show actress was hardly recognizable when the Daily Mail photographed her in Los Angeles. She wasn’t wearing the heavy makeup her famous character usually wore, opting for a natural look while out doing everyday tasks.

Kinney, 70, has generally kept a low profile, but was recently seen shopping at a grocery store. He was dressed stylishly in a chic paisley fedora, a white linen quarter-sleeve shirt, and relaxed dark blue jeans. He completed his look with red sunglasses, a smartwatch, and a black crossbody bag.

She finally left the store, carrying her items in a blue box. She then walked to her gray Porsche, wearing blue sneakers, and put her purchases inside.

The rare sighting was only a few weeks after The Drew Carey Show’s 30-year anniversary.

I’ll never forget Kathy Kinney as Mimi Bobeck! She was the perfect villain on the show, Drew Carey’s secretary, and completely dedicated to making his life miserable. It all started because Drew wouldn’t hire her due to her very distinctive makeup – you know, the layers of blue and black eyeshadow, the heavy blush, those dramatically drawn eyebrows, and that bold red lip. She vowed revenge, and honestly, it was hilarious! She really brought that character to life.

Initially, she was only scheduled to be in a single episode. However, she received such a positive response from viewers in the pilot that the producers decided to make her a regular cast member.

During the show’s ten seasons, from 1995 to 2004, a running joke involved the characters’ constant arguments. This included the nicknames she gave him – like ‘Pig‘ and ‘Doughboy‘ – and her over-the-top pranks. For example, she once glued his hand to a magazine with adult content, or even sent him to China while he was asleep.

Even after the show finished, Kinney and the actual Drew Carey have remained good friends and have worked together on many different projects.

Carey secured several hosting jobs, and Kinney joined as a guest on some of them, such as Whose Line Is It Anyway? and The Price Is Right. On The Price Is Right, she once again played the character of Mimi for one episode.

The pair also shared the screen in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and in 2006, they went to Iraq to perform for and support American soldiers.

Kinney returned as Mimi on a guest appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in 2009. In a comedic sketch, Ferguson played her supervisor, Mr. Wick.

She started her comedy career on the show Newhart (1982-1990) as Miss Goddard, a flirtatious librarian. Her character had a recurring joke: she constantly tried to charm the show’s guest stars, whether they were priests or judges.

Before achieving success on Dew Carey, Kinney appeared as a guest star on several popular television shows, including Seinfeld, Grace Under Fire, Full House, Boy Meets World, The Larry Sanders Show, and My Name is Earl.

As Kinney got older, she appeared as a guest star on the animated show The Penguin of Madagascar, voicing the character Rhonda the walrus. She also had a guest role on The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

After leaving television, Kinney joined forces with Cindy Ratzlaff, a seasoned marketing professional, to launch the Queen of Your Own Life brand. They create vibrant postcards featuring uplifting quotes, intended as a form of ‘daily meditation’.
