Soo Catwoman dies aged 70: Model and punk icon’s children release heartbreaking statement after star fell into a coma

Punk and fashion icon, Soo Catwoman has died aged 70 after falling into a coma.

Susan Lucas, also known as Soo Catwoman, became famous for her distinctive haircut. She designed it in 1976 to resemble cat ears. This became her trademark style.

She had a close connection to the punk band Sex Pistols because she used to live with their bassist, Sid Vicious.

Recently, Catwoman became sick and required hospital treatment. She passed away on Tuesday, with family and loved ones at her side.

Her children Shem and Dion shared a statement alongside a fundraiser to help with funeral costs.

The statement confirmed that she recently became ill and was hospitalized. Soon after, she fell into a coma and, sadly, never regained consciousness. She passed away on Tuesday, September 30th, 2025, at 3:56 am, with her family and loved ones by her side. More details will be released later.

‘We are utterly devastated by her loss, it came very quickly and unexpectedly.

She was a remarkably kind and compassionate person who dedicated her life to helping others. She consistently stood up for those who were vulnerable and readily offered assistance to anyone in need.

She was a very impactful and motivating person, and her image has been prominent in the public’s mind for the last 49 years.

She revolutionized fashion with her unique, handcrafted clothing accessories, bold makeup, and, notably, her iconic ‘Soo Catwoman’ hairstyle.

She continues to be a major influence in music, art, and fashion. Her look is classic and just as captivating now as it was back in 1976. It truly stands the test of time.

Soo lived a quiet, dignified personal life. Because of this, she didn’t try to profit from her celebrity and preferred a simple lifestyle. She prioritized raising her children over pursuing fame and wealth.

We were very close to our Mom, and she always prioritized helping others over gaining wealth. Because her passing was sudden and we’re facing expenses, we’re humbly asking if anyone would like to contribute to the costs of her funeral and related expenses. This would allow us to give her the respectful and dignified send-off she deserves. We loved her very much and appreciate any support you can offer. Thank you.

‘We would be very grateful for any and all help people wish to give.

We’d like to explore the idea of creating a lasting memorial to honour her, using any money remaining after covering the funeral expenses. This would give friends, family, and fans a special place to visit and remember her for many years to come.

As of today, the children have collected £9,358 through 336 donations. Their goal is to reach a total of £16,000.

Susan’s story was previously featured in the series Pistol, which focused on Steve Jones, the guitarist for the Sex Pistols, and the band’s journey to fame in the late 1970s.

The film was directed by Danny Boyle, and Iris Law played the role of Soo Catwoman, a character linked to the London punk scene.

Talking about the character she plays, Iris explained: ‘My goal is to portray her accurately and respectfully. Many people aren’t familiar with who she is or her story, and I’d like to change that.’

FX, a US television network, initially ordered six episodes of the series. It features Toby Wallace playing Steve Jones, and Maisie Williams, known for her role in Game Of Thrones, as model Pamela Rooke.
