The creators of the Creep series – filmmaker Patrick Brice and actor Mark Duplass – have shared that Creep 3 is still in development, reassuring fans who were worried the movie had been cancelled.
The found-footage horror series started in 2014 with Creep, a film directed by and starring Brice as Aaron, who is pursued by the serial killer played by Duplass. Since then, a follow-up movie, Creep 2, was released in 2017, and the story expanded to television with a series called The Creep Tapes on Shudder.
Since Creep 2 came out, there’s been talk of a third Creep movie being made. However, the release of The Creep Tapes appears to have put those plans on hold. At Fantastic Fest 2025, Duplass and Brice told TopMob that while discussing Season 2 of The Creep Tapes, they will still make Creep 3, even though it’s been at least 8 years since the last film.
I’m really excited about where Brice is taking Creep 3! He’s said they want this film to wrap things up, to really bring a chapter to a close. He described his vision as “a defining…end of a sentence” – like a perfect, conclusive ending – and “something that closes things up:” which honestly sounds amazing. It feels like they’re aiming for something truly final and satisfying.
Brice said, “We’re planning to make a ‘Creep 3.’ However, we envision ‘Creep 3’ as a conclusive piece – a way to wrap things up and provide a sense of finality… Like, it should really bring the story to a close.”

Duplass (whom audiences might recognize from The Morning Show) also shared that the positive reception to Creep 2 actually caused a delay in developing Creep 3. He and Brice felt “a little paralyzed” by how well the second film had done. They were only willing to make a third movie if they felt “it could match or even be better than that”.
Duplass: “After making ‘Creep 2’, Patrick and I felt stuck when it came to ‘Creep 3’. The first two films had been so successful – and by successful, I mean the dedicated fans really loved them. We didn’t want to make another one unless we were confident it could be just as good, or even better, you know?”
The Creep series is designed to be continuous, centering around a main serial killer – known as Peachfuzz – and the people he targets over time. The Creep Tapes showed even more of Peachfuzz’s disturbing behavior, with each installment focusing on a different victim.
Duplass explained that The Creep Tapes gave them the flexibility to create “a series of unusual short collections” instead of feeling obligated to produce “a lengthy double album.”
As a critic, I was really struck by something Mark Duplass said about making ‘The Creep Tapes‘. He explained that the process actually liberated them creatively. Instead of aiming for a sprawling, ambitious project – what he called a ‘double album’ – they decided to embrace a series of smaller, more experimental releases, essentially ‘a bunch of weird EPs‘. And, surprisingly, that’s where they found the real fun.
At the festival (which began with the film Primate about chimpanzees), Duplass discussed the new second season of The Creep Tapes. He explained that the TV show format lets them create “more chaos” than they can in movies, and this encourages the team to “take bigger risks” with each episode.
Duplass explained, “From a technical standpoint, the television show has more unpredictable elements than the movies. This is because the shorter runtime-around 30 minutes-gives us the freedom to experiment more and try bolder approaches. The format allows for a wider range of stories and styles to be successful, and that’s a really positive thing.”
The Creep Tapes is created and written by Brice and Duplass. Brice directs every episode, and Duplass returns as the character Peachfuzz. The first season, which came out in November 2024, featured appearances by guest stars like Josh Ruben, Krisha Fairchild, and Mike Luciano. You can watch the second season of The Creep Tapes on Shudder and AMC+ starting November 14, 2025.
What Can Fans Expect From a Creep 3 Movie?
Mark Duplass and Jay Brice have recently stated that they still plan to make a third Creep movie. They explained that The Creep Tapes was a step they took to develop the ideas and reach a point where they could confidently begin working on a complete Creep trilogy.
It appears that when Creep 3 is finally released, it will likely serve as the final installment in the series, designed to wrap up the story, as Brice suggested-or at least conclude the storyline for Duplass’ character (though the role of the killer could be taken on by someone else if the franchise continues).
We still don’t know when Creep 3 might be made. The Creep Tapes was already renewed for a third season by Shudder before Season 2 even came out, so Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice will probably be busy with that before they can begin work on the third movie. However, the good news is that when Creep 3 finally arrives, both Brice and Duplass have exciting plans for it, which should make the wait worthwhile for fans.
