Jamie Laing jokes he ‘nearly divorced’ his pregnant wife Sophie Habboo while renovating their £12million home as he shares a glimpse of the jaw-dropping transformation

Jamie Laing playfully claimed he almost got ‘divorced’ by his wife, Sophie Habboo, while they were renovating their house in London. He shared this amusing story along with a new video showing the beautiful changes they’ve made to the property.

The Made In Chelsea alum, age 36, has been showing off their home – currently estimated at £12 million – as he and Sophie anticipate the arrival of their first baby.

Jamie shared a video on Instagram, jokingly questioning the notion that renovating their home would bring him and Sophie closer together.

And then, you have to see this! The video cuts to me dancing in my completely renovated bathroom, and the screen says: ‘Doing a victory dance because we didn’t get divorced.‘ Honestly, a little bathroom refresh can do wonders for a relationship, right? It really saved us! It’s amazing what a fresh space can do!

Jamie’s new house features a beautiful white bathroom connected directly to the bedroom, complete with classic tiled floors and a large walk-in shower.

The video then pans into one of the home’s five bedrooms, highlighting the dark wood furnishings and the calm, neutral colour palette.

Last month, Jamie shared photos of his new home on social media. He and Sophie, 30, bought the property in the fashionable Notting Hill area of west London last year for £4.1 million.

He gave his 1.6 million followers a tour of the ground floor, excitedly showcasing a Mediterranean-style kitchen that flowed into an open living space. The kitchen featured a large, marble-topped island as its focal point.

The modern kitchen is bright and airy, thanks to four skylights. It connects to a terraced garden on one side and flows into a spacious, open-plan living area that’s warmly decorated with family photos and cherished ornaments. The space is surrounded by walls with a soft, lime-washed finish.

However, before Jamie and Sophie moved into the home they’d always wanted, the five-bedroom, semi-detached house looked quite different than it does now.

Photos taken when the property was for sale last year revealed a somewhat dated and crowded interior. The kitchen, previously entirely white, featured a smaller island and lacked the modern range cooker that’s now installed.

As a lifestyle expert, I always envision a living room as the heart of the home, and this one felt instantly inviting. It featured a beautiful, oblong marble table – perfect for gatherings – surrounded by warm wooden chairs. I especially loved how two large, comfy armchairs were positioned facing a set of wooden patio doors. Stepping through those doors led you onto a small terrace, and beyond that, a slightly wild, narrow garden – a little privacy and greenery always adds so much charm, don’t you think? It felt like a lovely space to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Gardens like these have such a unique appeal!

Originally, the property felt more like a typical family home in the suburbs. However, after a 14-month renovation led by interior designer Jojo Barr of House Nine, a well-known interior design company, it was transformed into a stylish and luxurious townhouse.

Jamie built his fortune through various business endeavors, notably by co-founding the confectionery company Candy Kittens in 2012.

His family history includes Alexander Grant, who played a key role in creating Digestives and established the McVitie’s brand.

Jamie has appeared on several popular television shows, including Strictly Come Dancing, Celebrity Gogglebox, and The Great British Bake Off.

Oh my gosh, he co-hosts the *amazing* podcast, NearlyParents, with his wife, Sophie! It’s seriously huge – they’ve landed big sponsors like Max Factor! I mean, Max Factor! You know a podcast is doing something right when *they* get involved. I listen to every single episode, obviously.

The couple’s new neighbours said they seemed to be adjusting to life in Notting Hill and were clearly enjoying the affluent neighbourhood. They noted the couple had ‘settled down well’, suggesting they were happy with their new surroundings. Notting Hill is known for being a well-to-do area, and it appears the couple are thriving there.

Someone mentioned they saw him running recently. He and his family have a nice house, but many others in the neighborhood do too. People don’t make a big deal out of it because this area is full of well-known individuals.

Someone else mentioned: ‘The construction lasted a good amount of time, but that’s typical. There are many wealthy residents in this area, so someone is always having work done on their property.’

Currently, there are around three large projects happening on the street where Jamie and Sophie live. These projects are consistently well-managed to avoid causing problems for people who live there. It’s important to be considerate in this neighborhood and maintain good relationships with your neighbors.

Jamie revealed his new house on Instagram with the caption ‘Just in time’, and then tagged Sophie while writing: ‘My wife and I bought our first home and started renovating it…’

’14 months, 10,000 arguments and nearly divorced later, we’ve finally finished.’

Sophie announced to fans she is expecting her first child with her husband Jamie back in June.

The loved-up couple tied the knot in a lavish Spanish wedding in 2023.

Oh my gosh, you won’t *believe* this! I was reading The Standard, and they interviewed the couple! They said that after they wrote about how hard it was to find a house – seriously, it was a whole saga – the *previous* owner’s grandmother actually *saw* the article! Can you even imagine? It’s like, the universe just *knew* they were meant to end up with that house. I’m telling you, it’s fate! It’s the most amazing story, and it all started with that article about their fruitless house-hunting journey. I’ve read it like, five times already!

I always tell my clients, timing is everything! Well, that’s exactly what happened with one of my recent listings. I called my grandson, absolutely convinced I’d found the ideal buyers for his apartment. And wouldn’t you know it, Sophie and Jamie just happened to book a viewing at the property the very same day! It was serendipity, really.

Although Jamie had some initial doubts about the house, Sophie immediately adored it and playfully warned her husband she’d file for divorce if he didn’t make an offer. By the end of the day, they had submitted their bid.

He recounted the story, saying: ‘Initially, I wasn’t convinced when we first entered. Then Sophie turned to me and jokingly threatened, ‘If we don’t make an offer, I’m divorcing you!’ That sealed the deal for me.’

Sophie told The Standard that the kitchen was the most crucial room in her renovation. She shared: ‘I’ve always dreamed of a large kitchen with a spacious island. To me, that’s where life happens – it’s the heart of the home.

For me, the best part of Jamie’s house has to be his incredible cinema room. It’s totally decked out – think a stylish striped carpet, amazing high-end speakers, and even a full bar! And of course, it’s stocked with huge jars of Candy Kittens – you know, his own confectionery company. It’s just the perfect place to relax and enjoy a movie.

He explained his fondness for the luxurious room, stating: ‘I was always fascinated by movies. Having our own cinema, a cozy space to enjoy popcorn – that’s always been my dream.’

Their connection began as a friendship in 2019, and it blossomed into a romantic relationship. After two years of being engaged, they finally tied the knot and got married.
