Catherine Zeta-Jones, 56, and Michael Douglas, 81, look more in love than ever after 25 years of marriage as they tee off at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

Catherine Zeta-Jones and her husband, Michael Douglas, appeared deeply in love while enjoying a round of golf together in St Andrews.

On Tuesday, the famous Hollywood couple was seen starting their game on the second hole of The Old Course at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 2025 in Scotland. They were playing at The Old Course.

Michael, 81, and Catherine, 56, appeared deeply affectionate as he put his arm around her and drew her close for a hug before they had their photos taken.

Catherine got dressed for golf in a navy and black zip-up sweater and fitted trousers, completing her outfit with a black cap and sunglasses.

Meanwhile Michael opted for a bright blue half-zip sweater and trousers which matched his wife’s.

The couple, who have been together for a long time, were seen celebrating a good shot on the golf course with a fist bump before moving on to the next tee.

This happened shortly after Michael surprised his fans by using an unusual nickname – ‘weird’ according to some – for his wife, Catherine.

The couple, born exactly 25 years apart on September 25th, shared heartfelt birthday wishes for each other on social media with loving messages.

However, the Basic Instinct actor received a variety of responses to his post when he called his wife his ‘birthday sister.’

A lot of people wondered about the nickname, and some were surprised to find out they had the same birthday.

Oh my gosh, when Michael started speaking about his wife, my heart melted! He called her his ‘birthday sister’ – isn’t that the sweetest thing ever?! Seriously, I’m not crying, *you’re* crying! He just said, ‘What a joy celebrating another year with you!’ and I swear, it was the most romantic thing I’ve ever heard. Twenty-five years! #goals, honestly. I need a Michael in my life!

The Fatal Attraction star – whose former wife also married the Earl of Dartmouth around the same time – also said: ‘Congratulations on playing so well at the Celebrity Ryder Cup. Happy birthday to the love of my life @CatherineZetaJones.’

In the comments section, Catherine shared a gushing reply. 

“Happy birthday darling,” she wrote, adding red heart emojis ❤️. “I couldn’t imagine celebrating with anyone else.”

She also shared a heartfelt tribute to her partner on Instagram, posting a collection of old photos spanning several years.

She wrote in her caption: ‘Happy birthday Michael! It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience to celebrate this special day with you!’

Catherine also shared a collage of old photos on her Instagram Story. The photos showed her and her husband being very affectionate during a photoshoot, displaying plenty of PDA.

She posted a stunning selfie, highlighting her beautiful hair and makeup, and playfully suggested what she did ‘the night before her birthday.’

In the comments following Michael’s post, a lot of fans discussed his affectionate nickname for his wife. Others were surprised to discover that he and his wife were born on the same day and in the same month.

Someone asked: ‘Did you just call your wife sister ?? Or am I tripping ??‘; another person replied, ‘That’s his wife, not his sister,’; and then someone questioned, ‘What did he mean by “birthday sister?”‘

Michael and Catherine tied the knot in November 2000 and are getting ready to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary soon.

The couple also share a son, Dylan, 25, and a daughter, Carys, 22, who both celebrated their parents’ birthdays online – Carys liked Zeta-Jones’s birthday post and shared one of her own. Douglas is also a father to Cameron, 46, from his previous marriage to Diandra Luker.

Douglas and Zeta-Jones experienced a brief separation in August 2013, after being married for 13 years, but they got back together the next year.

Douglas once shared that he realized she was the woman he wanted to be with after seeing her in The Mask of Zorro back in 1998.

They met later that same year at the Deauville Film Festival and got engaged in December 1999. 

In 2015, he discussed their marriage and a short time they spent apart while on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

‘It can’t be a one-way street. But I’m crazy about her,’ he said on the talk show.

Yes, I believe all couples go through tough patches. The challenge for us is that, as you know, our relationship is very public, so any difficulties become more visible. But we’ve worked through it and are stronger than ever.
