The main reason behind Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s divorce appears to be Keith Urban secretly leaving their shared home.
Following confirmation from The Daily Mail on Monday that the couple had separated, sources are now sharing that the Oscar winner, 58, and the country singer, 57, were already living separately before the news was made public.
According to an insider who spoke with People, their lives were diverging, and when he moved into his own home without much fanfare, it signaled the end of the relationship. The source said, ‘Their lives were moving in different directions, and once he quietly set up his own place, it felt like the writing was on the wall.’
Although Nicole Kidman was trying to fix things with her partner, the fact that they were living apart made it harder and harder for them to get back together.
According to a source, it was widely known among Keith and Nicole’s friends that they had been living apart for some time now, and those nearest to them anticipated the split. ‘It really hasn’t been a secret in their circles that Keith and Nicole have been living separately for a while now,‘ the source explained, noting that those closest to the couple saw the end coming.
Another source revealed that Kidman didn’t want a divorce and really tried to fix the marriage.

‘She wasn’t happy about this situation,’ a source revealed, referring to the Big Little Lies star’s feelings. ‘She’s been working hard to try and keep the marriage together.’
Following the events, Nicole Kidman is leaning on her sister, Antonia Kidman, who is now providing significant support.
According to a source, Nicole’s sister has been a huge source of strength, and the whole Kidman family has been united in supporting each other,’ the insider added.
Kidman and Urban, who who wed in 2006, share daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
Someone close to the Australian actress shared that she’s been the primary caregiver for the children and has been keeping the family stable during this challenging period, while Keith Urban has been traveling.
The country singer has been traveling with his High and Alive World Tour since May. He’s scheduled to perform in Hershey, Pennsylvania on Thursday.
Nicole Kidman and her children are currently in Nashville, residing on the couple’s $4 million estate.
According to a report from TMZ on Monday, Keith Urban has purchased a separate home in Nashville and has moved out of the house he shared with his family.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe where she was this summer! She totally went to England! Can you even imagine? She was filming the sequel to Practical Magic – the original from 1998 is, like, my *life* – and she just left everything to go do it! I’m so jealous! It’s amazing!
She reportedly paid £65,000 (around $87,000) per month to rent a lavish mansion in Hampstead that formerly belonged to pop star Boy George.
While the London move was for work, it certainly raised eyebrows back in Kidman’s native Australia.
According to a source who spoke with Woman’s Day earlier this month, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban try to talk daily when they’re not together. However, the insider noted it’s surprising how much time they’ve been separated, especially since Nicole’s mother passed away last September. The source said it felt as if they had each gone their own way.
The Australian actress and her husband, Urban, were last seen together in public in June. They were photographed at a FIFA World Cup match held in Nashville, Tennessee.
Back in July, Urban suggested there were problems between him and Kidman when he abruptly ended a phone interview with a radio station. This happened after a question he considered disrespectful about Kidman’s recent, more explicit roles in films like Babygirl and A Family Affair.
While promoting her Netflix show The Perfect Couple in September of last year, Kidman shared that a truly ‘perfect’ marriage doesn’t actually exist. For her, this was a candid admission about relationships.
‘There’s no perfect anything,’ she said, ‘anything that’s presented as perfect… forget it.’
Nicole Kidman and actor Tom Cruise were married for 11 years, from 1990 until 2001. During their marriage, they adopted two children together.
Last year, Kidman said she was ‘so lucky’ to have met the singer.

‘I’m so lucky that I have Keith who’s just my love, my deep, deep love,’ she told People magazine.
You know, as someone who’s built a life balancing work and personal commitments, I feel incredibly fortunate to have Keith in my life. He truly gives me the freedom and confidence to pursue my goals, knowing I always have a solid foundation to return to. It’s so important to have that support system, isn’t it? It really makes all the difference.
The announcement of their separation follows quickly after Kidman celebrated almost 20 years of marriage with Urban, posting a touching message to the country singer on their 19th anniversary.
To celebrate the special day, the Big Little Lies star shared a heartwarming black and white photo of a tender moment they had together behind the scenes at one of his concerts.
The Oscar winner is pictured with her arm around her husband, while he holds her hand. It’s a loving and affectionate pose.
The happy couple both closed their eyes as Kidman rested her forehead against Urban’s head.
She wrote, ‘Happy Anniversary Baby ❤️ @KeithUrban,‘ in the caption of her post. It quickly gained over 25,023 likes-in under an hour!

Within minutes, the Somebody Like You hitmaker commented a single red heart emoji.
The couple got married in 2006 with a traditional Catholic ceremony at the Cardinal Cerretti Chapel in Sydney, her hometown.
Kidman and Urban married five years after her split from actor Cruise.
She welcomed Sunday in July 2008 and Faith via surrogate two years later.
During an appearance on Jessica Rowe’s podcast, The Big Talk Show, the singer stated in 2022 that he and his wife live a remarkably ordinary life, just like everyone else.
I remember him talking about the first time he met her, back at the G’Day LA event in 2005. He always says he was completely starstruck and thought she, this stunning Hollywood star, was way out of his league. It’s so sweet to hear him talk about it!

We’re a couple who navigate life’s challenges together, offering each other support and doing our best to raise our family,” Urban shared.
He said, ‘I think, deep down, we’re just as ordinary as anyone else,’ then admitted he hadn’t been doing well emotionally when they initially connected. He stated he was ‘not in a great place’ at the time.
‘[She] seemed well out of my league at that time in my life,’ he said.
I was going through a really difficult time, dealing with many personal challenges, and I honestly didn’t think anyone could ever see potential in me… The fact that things turned out the way they did is truly amazing.
He lovingly described his wife, saying she was ‘ethereal, angelic, other worldly, very mystical and then completely down to earth at the same time and very funny.’
