Carmen Electra Set to Join Baywatch Reboot with 1 Major Condition

Carmen Electra has expressed her enthusiasm for returning to the role and recreating her famous slow-motion run in the iconic red swimsuit. She’s the first member of the original cast to hint at being involved in the series’ reboot.

Electra told TMZ that “it could be fun” to reprise Lani McKenzie in . She joined the cast as a series regular in Season 8, which ran for 22 episodes. “I could do the slow-motion run. I can definitely do that,” the actor said. “And I still look really good in that suit, so that is not a problem.” She would rather not film any of the water scenes, however. “It’s the ocean, you know?” she asserted, “I love being around the ocean. Working in it is very different. When you’re working in the ocean, it is very complicated.”

As a big Baywatch fan, I always loved Season 8! It wasn’t just about the ongoing stories, but also introducing us to new faces like Kelly Packard, Michael Bergin, Angelica Bridges, and Marliece Andrada. I recently read an interview with Electra where she explained how much the producers and directors wanted the cast to do their own stunts. Apparently, viewers had complained about that in earlier seasons, so they really focused on it with the new rookies! We got to see the new cast – including Electra – go through ‘rookie school’ and learn everything from scratch, which was really cool.

Carmen Electra Recalls Doing Her Own Stunts in Baywatch

The actor acknowledged that scenes with her were refilmed so her character could “keep up” with the action. The scenes involving rescues were especially challenging. Electra did a lot of the stunts herself, including tandem surfing and diving from boats moving at high speed. “It was truly difficult at times when we were practicing and actually in the water,” she remembered. “I always felt a real sense of achievement when I managed to get through them.”

The actress shared her idea for returning in a new version of the show, jokingly suggesting, “Perhaps I could be a captain!” This is similar to how Pamela Anderson’s C.J. Parker was first presented in the 2017 film, which focused on a fresh group of characters. The Baywatch series led to one spin-off, Baywatch Nights, as well as three films released directly to video: Baywatch the Movie: Forbidden Paradise, Baywatch: White Thunder at Glacier Bay and Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding.

Baywatch originally faced cancellation because of poor viewership, but it made a comeback in 1991 thanks to syndication. The show continued for another 10 seasons and became a major part of popular culture. At its most popular, each episode attracted 1.1 billion viewers. “When I started on the show, it was the most-watched program globally, and it was unbelievable-I had to make sure it was real,” Electra remembered. Fox announced on September 23rd that they had approved a new version of the series.

Baywatch is currently slated to premiere on Fox during the 2026-2027 broadcast season.
