DC Studios head James Gunn is now sharing details about the upcoming Batman movie in the DCU – and it sounds like plans are evolving rapidly. Gunn recently offered a mysterious hint regarding Damian Wayne, also known as Robin, and whether he’ll be part of the film.
During a conversation with IGN, James Gunn shared his enthusiasm for The Brave and the Bold, the next Batman film currently in development. Gunn hinted, “I like where we’re at with the The Brave and the Bold script,” while also mentioning that “a lot is still subject to change.” One aspect of the movie that appears to be evolving is the role of Damian Wayne, a well-known iteration of Robin. The character had been previously suggested as being included in the film.
No, I think you should hold off on seeing the movie for now. Things have shifted,” Gunn warned. “A lot is still uncertain regarding his background and family history, so don’t believe anything you hear – Yes, I mean, the actor who was interested… Let me tell you, a significant number of well-known actors have approached me,” he continued.
Gunn’s statements suggest that the initial ideas for the project may have changed somewhat, but the character is still expected to appear. Regardless, this character might play a supporting role to Batman in The Brave and the Bold. Gunn was enthusiastic about sharing how many actors are interested in the iconic part, stating: “It’s more difficult to find actors who *aren’t* interested in being Batman. He’s the one role everyone wants.” That’s just the truth.
When directly questioned about Damian’s origins and whether he’ll still be featured in the movie, Gunn offered a careful reply. He stated, “I think you have to wait to see exactly what’s happening.” While not a firm answer, this statement does suggest some interesting potential directions for the film’s story. It leaves the door open to many possibilities.
The Brave and the Bold Could Feature Iconic DC Comics Team-Ups
Originally, The Brave and the Bold was a DC comic book published from 1955 to 1983. It mainly showcased team-ups between characters from throughout the DC Universe, frequently featuring Batman as a central figure. Later, in 2008, an animated series with the same name debuted, also highlighting Batman partnering with different heroes, much like the original comic book.
If James Gunn decides to explore the historical roots suggested by the film’s title, he could end up working with many of the best characters in the DC Universe. However, this approach might not give Damian Wayne, as Robin, the spotlight he deserves, and that could be why Gunn is shifting the story’s focus away from him. Ultimately, we’ll have to wait and see – and since The Brave and the Bold doesn’t have a release date yet, fans may be waiting quite a while for more information.
The Brave and the Bold remains in development at this time.
