Boyzone set to reunite for a one-off stadium show next summer with an emotional tribute to Stephen Gately

Boyzone is planning a reunion concert at a stadium next year. The show will be a special event honoring the memory of the late Stephen Gately and is expected to be very emotional.

The popular pop group first became famous in 1993. It was created by Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham, Shane Lynch, and Stephen.

Stephen passed away unexpectedly in October 2009 at his home in Port d’Andratx, Mallorca. Medical examinations later revealed that his death was due to fluid in the lungs – a pulmonary oedema – caused by a heart problem that hadn’t been detected.

Earlier this month, Ronan mentioned that the reaction to the four-episode Sky documentary Boyzone: No Matter What, which came out in February, led to new conversations about what’s next for the band.

On Tuesday, the band officially announced in a statement that they will be performing a reunion concert, One For The Road: Live At Emirates Stadium in London, on Saturday, June 6.

Boyzone shared: ‘We are incredibly moved and grateful for how people have reacted to the documentary this year.

They shared: ‘The incredible support we’ve received from fans worldwide has motivated us to build the best possible show – a stadium performance headlined by us!’

‘The four of us can’t wait to stand together again and enjoy One For The Road.’

The ticket pre-sale is Tuesday October 7 at 9am, with general sale on Friday October 10 at 9am.

This large stadium, with a capacity of 44,000, will host Boyzone’s first performance as a group since they played five nights at the London Palladium in 2019.

While speaking with Scott Mills on the Breakfast Show, Ronan mentioned that the reaction to the four-part Sky documentary Boyzone: No Matter What, which came out in February, had led to new conversations about what’s next for the band.

He explained that the response was incredible, and they had clearly been discussing their journey for three decades. He added that they felt this moment might be the conclusion of their story: ‘that maybe that was the end of the story.

So, we’ve been discussing things recently, and I believe 2026 could be the year for Boyzone to potentially attempt something new.

Already causing a huge reaction from fans, the band then shared a series of photos on their Instagram, with the message: ‘the journey continues‘. They asked fans to join their mailing list for updates.

Boyzone initially broke up after seven years as a group in 2000 so the members could focus on their individual careers, but they later came back together in 2007.

They toured the world with their Thank You And Goodnight farewell shows between 2018 and 2019.

During their Sky docuseries, Ronan became overwhelmed with emotion and began to cry while talking about the passing of his dear friend and bandmate, Stephen.

In a particularly sad moment, the group remembered spending the night beside Stephen’s coffin in the church, just before his funeral.

Mikey clarified, ‘We were concerned about him spending the night alone in the church‘, and Ronan followed up, ‘He also didn’t appreciate the cold.

Reflecting on the night, Mikey explained: ‘After everyone else had gone, when it was just the five of us remaining, there was a really strong feeling of calm and togetherness.

It wasn’t really sadness, surprisingly. We actually had a pretty funny night – lots of the old joking around, like back when everything was new and carefree… but the morning arrived quickly.

Ronan was the first to find out about Stephen’s passing; he received the news from the band’s lawyer and then contacted the other band members and Louis to let them know.

‘It just wouldn’t go in,’ Keith said. ‘Not our Stephen.’

Mikey added: ‘My world just fell apart.’

The next year, the band embarked on the Brother tour as a tribute to Stephen. Mikey shared, ‘It was really nice to spend time together again.
