The updates for eFootball 2026 are consistently released, and this time, KONAMI has launched the Spanish League Guardians pack. It includes players like Lilian Thuram, Iker Casillas, and Edmilson, and it’s great to see another pack focused on defenders.

This group features three cards, each with unique abilities and roles. But the big question is: are they actually worth the investment? Let me share my review and break down the specifics.

Lilian Thuram

  • Position: CB
  • Playing Style: Destroyer
  • Show Time Skill: Aerial Fort and Fortress

Thuram is a powerfully dominant player – that’s the best way to describe it. I really struggled when playing against opponents who had him and understood his strengths. He combines incredible force with blazing speed, making him a real threat to defenders.

Okay, so I just got my hands on the Destroyer at Cornerback, and it’s a seriously good playable card. It’s different from the last card I pulled – that one’s still top-tier, honestly – because this one can’t be played at Run Backer. But it’s a really solid upgrade for my CB. Seriously, the pace and acceleration stats on this guy are the best I’ve seen on any defender; he shuts down any receiver instantly. It’s a game changer!

He uses his strength to push past defenders while maintaining good balance, and I saw a good play from him. However, this player doesn’t seem to have the endurance to play a full 90 minutes – perhaps I was too critical, but his stamina isn’t top-tier.

However, this doesn’t diminish the possibility that Thuram is currently among the top defenders in the game. I’d compare him to a newer Nesta, because he’s more well-rounded, though the Long-Range Tackle remains the most effective defensive ability.

Iker Casillas

  • Position: GK
  • Playing Style: Offensive Goalkeeper
  • Show Time Skill: GK Directing Defence

There’s a lot of debate surrounding the Casillas card. While some players doubted its effectiveness due to his height and physical attributes – especially when compared to taller players – this card has shown those concerns to be unfounded. It proves that he’s a capable player despite not being physically imposing. Many were skeptical, but this card silences those doubts.

He has excellent reflexes, and his ability to make close-range saves is noticeably better than in previous versions of the card. He reacts quickly when the play starts, and his positioning feels very intuitive, so he rarely finds himself out of position.

I have to admit, sometimes it’s a little frustrating watching him concede goals from curlers, but honestly, his reflexes more than make up for it! His diving saves are really sharp, and he gets down to low shots so quickly. They’ve definitely brought in a good goalkeeper with this signing – a really good card, if you ask me.

Edmílson

  • Position: DMF
  • Playing Style: Anchor Man
  • Show Time Skill: Long-reach Tackle and Fortress

Edmilson is a hugely valuable player who doesn’t get enough credit. He isn’t one for showboating, similar to Busquets, but he consistently and effectively handles the tough jobs in midfield. Playing as a deep-lying Anchor Man, he protects the defence, disrupts the opposition’s passing, and makes well-timed tackles.

Many fans still appreciate his older card, as it remains a solid choice for Central Back (CB). I think he performs better as a Defensive Midfielder (DMF), though his stats do improve when played at CB. He passes the ball cleanly and maintains possession, but he’s not going to deliver exceptionally precise through balls.

On defense, however, he’s a real threat. He stays very close to his opponents, applies intense pressure, and consistently makes timely tackles. Don’t overlook his ability to win headers, and if you’re looking for creative play, Through Passing is a valuable asset.

Verdict on the eFootball 2026 Spanish League Guardians players

I purchased this pack and think it’s a good deal, even though I’d rather not have received Casillas since I already own his older Madrid card. Thuram is the best card in the pack, and he could be considered the very best if he had the Long Range Tackle ability. He’s currently a strong contender for the top spot.
