Things Will Change Furrever in Final Trailer for Long-Awaited Disney Sequel ‘Zootopia 2’

Disney just dropped the final trailer for Zootopia 2, and it looks like Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) are on the run from the police while trying to solve a new mystery within the animal city. Zootopia 2 is the 64th animated movie from Walt Disney Animation, and it continues the studio’s tradition of making sequels like Ralph Breaks the Internet, Frozen 2, and Moana 2. The original directors of Zootopia, Jared Bush and Bryon Howard, are back to direct this new installment. In fact, Jared Bush was named Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation in 2024.

His children will be voiced by Andy Samberg, Brenda Song, and Macaulay Culkin. Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson will lend her voice to Dr. Fuzzby, a quokka therapist. Patrick Warburton, known for voicing Kronk in The Emperor’s New Groove, will play Mayor Brian Winddancer. And Ginnifer Goodwin’s husband and Once Upon a Time co-star, Josh Dallas, will also be appearing in the film.

The highly anticipated animated sequel has been scheduled for the lucrative Thanksgiving Day weekend – a slot that helped films like Moana 2 and Frozen 2 reach $1 billion at the box office. Considering the original Zootopia earned $1 billion in 2016, exceeding the earnings of the first Moana film, the sequel is well-positioned to be a top-earning movie this year, both in the US and internationally. Just like Inside Out 2 did last summer, Zootopia 2’s opening weekend performance could really surprise audiences, as the first movie has become a much-loved animated favorite for a generation eager for a continuation of the story.

Zootopia 2 is expected to be a major film this holiday season, competing with Avatar: Fire and Ash and Wicked: For Good. Disney is already planning both Frozen 3 and 4, plus Moana 3, so this could be the start of a long series of films for Walt Disney Animation. Considering the success of live-action buddy cop movies like Lethal Weapon, Rush Hour, and Bad Boys, Zootopia seems like a natural fit to become a continuing film series for Walt Disney Animation.
