The Age of Revelation event from Marvel Comics is here, and it’s quite different from what fans anticipated.
A sneak peek at X-Men: Age of Revelation Overture #1 (written by Jed MacKay, with art by Ryan Stegman, FP Mayer, Edgar Delgado, and lettering by VC’s Clayton Cowles) from Marvel Comics starts by showing an older Cyclops waking up to find his mutant teammates gathered around him. It’s revealed that this Cyclops has the memories of his future self, brought back in time from ten years ahead, hoping he can change the outcome of the fight against Revelation. However, it won’t be simple, as Revelation has already largely won the war.

First hinted at in June, the Age of Revelation follows directly from the well-known Age of Apocalypse storyline, expanding that part of the Marvel Multiverse. The events leading up to the Age of Revelation, written by Steve Foxe and illustrated by Netho Diaz, center around the ancient mutant Apocalypse making others compete until a single, worthy heir remained. Ultimately, Douglas Ramsey, known as Cypher, was selected as Apocalypse’s successor, leading to a harsh transformation that turned him into the powerful Revelation.
We previously talked about what fans can anticipate from the comic book event and the future it holds for the Marvel Universe. Shortly after the Age of Revelation was revealed, MacKay explained, “We’re going to a futuristic, alien world during the Age of Revelation, and the events in the Revelation Territories and other places will determine if this marks the beginning of a new era or the end of everything.” He added, “It’s been great to build this entire world and see other artists contribute their own unique areas within it!”
Recently, Tom Brevoort, Executive Editor and Conductor of X for Marvel Comics, confirmed that the future shown in the ongoing storylines will be unavoidable and will significantly impact the current Marvel Universe. Brevoort explained, “Starting in January and beyond, everything will be affected by what we’ve just seen-like living in its shadow.” He clarified that the recent events depict what happens to these characters ten years in the future. Brevoort emphasized, “We’re treating these as real, legitimate futures-not a What If scenario. Even the present-day characters acknowledge these events will happen, so you’ll see that reflected in the stories.”
X-Men: Age of Revelation Overture #1 goes on sale October 1 from Marvel Comics.
