Meryl Streep was already famous for making a strong impression, especially when she played Miranda Priestly in the popular 2000s film, The Devil Wears Prada. Things got even more interesting when the Academy Award-winning actress appeared dressed as the famous movie villain during a Milan Fashion Week event. And wouldn’t you know it, the real-life inspiration for Miranda Priestly was also in attendance! Vogue’s former Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour, had the opportunity to meet Streep at the same fashion show, and I would have loved to be there to witness it.
Lauren Weisberger, the author of The Devil Wears Prada, is generally thought to have modeled the character of Miranda Priestly after Anna Wintour, who was her supervisor when she worked as a personal assistant at Vogue. Interestingly, People reported that the lines between reality and fiction blurred when Meryl Streep, looking as glamorous as ever, filmed additional scenes as the Runway editor for the Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2026 collection and had the opportunity to meet the real-life inspiration for her character, Anna Wintour. It’s amazing! I really wish I could have witnessed that meeting. What a moment that must have been.
During the Milan Fashion Week show, Meryl Streep was spotted reprising her role as Miranda Priestly, seated alongside Stanley Tucci, who appeared as his character Nigel Kipling. Also present was co-star Simone Ashley, who is joining the cast for the upcoming 2026 film, and renowned fashion editor Anna Wintour. A Vogue Instagram video showed Wintour and Streep meeting beforehand, exchanging smiles and hugs, creating a heartwarming atmosphere:

I really wish I could have been there! I have so many questions. I’m dying to know what they discussed – things like whether they admired each other’s fancy outfits, and if Anna Wintour might make a quick appearance in The Devil Wears Prada 2. Given how many spoilers are already out about the Spring release, maybe it’s better to let some things remain a fun mystery.
As a total movie buff, I’m thrilled to hear that The Devil Wears Prada 2 is actually happening! And it’s not just fans like me who are excited – apparently, Anna Wintour is on board too. She’s mentioned before that she gets why everyone’s so hyped, not just because we’d get to see the original cast back together, but also because she sees it as a really lovely way to celebrate the impact of fashion. It’s great to know she approves!
Although Miranda Priestly appears cold and strict in the movie, we don’t need to be concerned about the Condé Nast artistic director being upset with how she’s depicted. She’s already stated she thought the original film was “highly enjoyable and very funny,” and she gave Meryl Streep’s performance high marks. This shows that even people in powerful positions can enjoy a lighthearted and fictionalized take on their lives without being offended.
Seeing Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly meet the woman who inspired the character at the Dolce & Gabbana show would have been amazing. Just picturing these two fashion icons watching the runway show makes you wonder who would have given the first disapproving look. Don’t miss this scene, filmed on location, and more when The Devil Wears Prada 2 comes out in theaters on May 1st.
