Even after the initial trailer was released, The Mandalorian and Grogu still has a significant mystery surrounding it. Although there are worries about the next Star Wars film, there’s still a lot of excitement for The Mandalorian and Grogu, which marks the first time Din Djarin’s story will be told on the big screen. Many details from the new movie, including some hinted at in early promotional materials, haven’t been revealed to fans yet.
The initial press release for The Mandalorian and Grogu didn’t mention Jeremy Allen White. White, famous for his Emmy-winning role in the FX series The Bear, was previously announced to appear in the upcoming Star Wars movie, slated for release in late 2024. Despite this, Lucasfilm and Disney’s early marketing materials for the film have given little attention to his involvement.
I was so excited when I saw the first press release for The Mandalorian and Grogu and watched the initial trailer, but I noticed something odd. Jeremy Allen White wasn’t listed among the cast, even though rumors say he’s playing Rotta the Hutt – Jabba the Hutt’s son! The release did mention and you can actually see him around the 0:52 mark in that first trailer. It’s a quick look, but definitely intriguing!
Whether it’s destroying leftover Imperial AT-ATs or getting involved in a gladiator-style battle with giant, life-sized versions of the creatures from Dejarik – and even catching a shadowy glimpse of a powerful Hutt – The Mandalorian and Grogu are constantly heading towards exciting new challenges. Jon Favreau directed the film and also served as a producer, alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce. Ludwig Göransson once again composed the music, bringing his talents back to the franchise.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I was really surprised this press release didn’t mention Jeremy Allen White! Everyone’s buzzing about his role, and I’m guessing his portrayal of Rotta the Hutt is going to be one of the biggest surprises when the movie comes out next summer. It’s exciting because this will be the first time we’ve seen the Hutt clan in live-action since Jabba the Hutt showed up in Episode VI-Return of the Jedi back in 1983. It’s been a long wait!
The Mandalorian and Grogu will be the first major Star Wars film released in theaters since 2019’s Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. The movie continues the storyline from the popular The Mandalorian series, which originally aired on Disney+. In addition to Jon Favreau (White), Pedro Pascal is set to reprise his role as Din Djarin, and Sigourney Weaver will be joining the cast as a currently unnamed character. The Mandalorian and Grogu is scheduled to premiere in cinemas on May 22, 2026.
Jeremy Allen White’s Expected Role in The Mandalorian and Grogu

It was confirmed in December 2024 that Jeremy Allen White will be appearing in The Mandalorian and Grogu as Rotta the Hutt, the son of the famous Star Wars villain Jabba the Hutt. This marks the first time the character has been seen since his introduction as a baby in the original The Clone Wars movie, which came before the seven seasons of The Clone Wars series, following Ahsoka Tano and the Clone Army.
The introduction of Rotta hints at the possible return of the criminal side of the Star Warsuniverse, which could connect to characters like the bounty hunter Boba Fett. This development could bring together storylines from previous shows such as The Clone Wars, Rebels, and the entire MandoVerse, especially considering the Hutts haven’t been featured much in live-action projects.
There’s also uncertainty about how big of a part Ebon Moss-Bachrach will play as Rotta the Hutt, especially since he’s currently working on The Bear and is scheduled to portray Bruce Springsteen in Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere. Because he’s only providing a voice performance, it’s possible he could appear on screen quite a bit, but that’s still unknown at this time.
Viewers are eagerly watching the promotional materials for The Mandalorian and Grogu, hoping to find further clues about White’s character, Rotta the Hutt.
