Cate Blanchett was among the stars at the Armani show during Milan Fashion Week on Sunday, where they honored the designer who recently passed away.

The show celebrated the brand’s 50th anniversary and featured the final designs by Giorgio, who sadly passed away peacefully at his home on September 4th.

Giorgio Armani led the company as both CEO and creative director until his recent passing. In a final interview just last week, he admitted his biggest challenge was his tendency to oversee every detail himself.

The man, known for being a dedicated worker and deeply involved in all parts of his shows, had once shared that his greatest life regret was prioritizing work over spending time with loved ones.

Giorgio Armani, known for dressing stars like Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Cate Blanchett, and Lady Gaga, was celebrated for his comfortable yet stylish designs.

He was one of the most influential and globally famous designers of the late 20th century.

Fellow Italian fashion designer Donatella Versace said the ‘world had lost a giant today’.

Writing on Instagram, she said: ‘He made history and will be remembered forever.’

The Armani group announced that the funeral will be a private event. However, the public is welcome to pay their respects at a viewing held in Milan on Saturday and Sunday.

The company announced that Mr. Armani, known with respect and admiration by those who worked with him, died peacefully with family by his side.

He worked tirelessly until the very end, fully committed to the company, its collections, and all of its current and planned projects, the company stated.

Giorgio Armani cancelled his menswear presentation in Milan this year because of a health issue. He also followed doctor’s advice and didn’t attend the Armani Privé show in Paris.

Despite a brief illness, he successfully directed a high-fashion show called “Noir Seduisant” in Paris in July 2025, overseeing it remotely from Milan.

I was really surprised to learn that, after 20 years of showing Armani Privé, Giorgio Armani wasn’t in Paris for the July show! He actually put out a statement saying it was the first time he’d missed it after all this time. As a longtime fan, it felt a little strange not seeing the collection presented in its usual location.

‘My doctors advised more rest, even though I felt ready.’

He explained that he managed all parts of the show from a distance, and emphasized that he personally reviewed and authorized everything viewers will see.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always believed in recognizing your limits, and recently I shared that I anticipate needing to scale back my commitments at some point. It’s just a natural part of life! I’m committed to continuing as long as I feel healthy and have the energy to do so, but I also want to be realistic about what’s sustainable long-term.

In October last year, Armani said he planned to retire within ‘two to three years’.

In an interview with Italy’s Corriere della Sera, he revealed he often has trouble sleeping and dreams of a future where he doesn’t have to make the final decisions anymore.
