With Version 3.6 of Honkai: Star Rail, a new set of characters is available through the Phase 1 banner. This time, HoYoverse is offering a banner with both a brand-new character, Evernight, and a returning favorite, The Herta.
We’ll be evaluating each character’s abilities and strengths as the game evolves, and we’ll let you know which characters are best to focus on. The first character banners became available on September 24th, 2025, after the game update, and will be available until October 16th, 2025.
Who should you pull for in HSR version 3.6 Phase 1
The first banner in Honkai: Star Rail’s Version 3.6 features Evernight and The Herta, making it tough to choose which character to get. The best choice depends on what your team needs and what you’re looking forward to in the game. Both characters are strong, but one might be more helpful for your current and future gameplay than the other. Here’s a guide to help you make your decision.
1. Evernight
Evernight is a powerful 5-Star unit specializing in Ice-type attacks. Her abilities center around summoning and sacrificing her companion, Evey, to charge up and deliver incredibly strong attacks powered by Memoria. When in her Darkest Riddle state, she provides unique benefits to the whole team, significantly boosting critical damage for all memosprites and applying a 30% vulnerability debuff to enemies, which enhances both her own damage output and the damage of her allies.

Evernight is most effective when played with specific teammates who focus on memosprites. She works incredibly well with Castorice and Hyacine – Castorice benefits from Evernight’s HP drain, and Hyacine’s healing abilities are greatly enhanced when paired with her. While Evernight isn’t as versatile without these key partners, she becomes a truly essential and powerful unit within the right team composition.
2. The Herta
Herta is a powerful 5-star character specializing in Ice damage and area-of-effect (AoE) attacks. Her abilities focus on unleashing extra attacks when enemies are low on health. She was intended to be the main damage dealer in teams, with characters like Anaxa providing support and boosting her effectiveness.

After she was released, the game changed, and characters who deal a lot of damage to single targets or become very powerful later in the game became more popular. This made Herta’s focus on area-of-effect (AoE) damage much less useful. Even Anaxa, who was designed to support her, turned out to be a strong character on his own, becoming a powerful late-game damage dealer instead of working within her team compositions. Because of this, Herta has become less effective, and it’s generally best not to spend resources trying to obtain her unless future updates change the game to prioritize AoE damage again.
