Radio personality Kyle Sandilands has shared his thoughts on the cancellation of the Australian Commercial Radio Awards.
Commercial Radio and Audio (CRA) revealed the news on Thursday, pointing to cost concerns.
On Friday’s radio show, Kyle & Jackie O, the 54-year-old host said the news wasn’t something most people would worry about.
‘No one cares,’ he said.
Even so, Kyle pointed out that canceling the awards wasn’t a good look for the Australian radio industry, suggesting it reflected poorly on its overall health.
He added that cancelling awards nights doesn’t look good for the industry.

I realize it’s expensive, and they believe the funds could be used more effectively in other areas, which I respect.
It creates a really negative impression for the industry when they essentially tell people their contributions aren’t worth celebrating.
Kyle wondered if Jackie ‘O’ Henderson and Brooklyn Ross knew if they would still be giving out awards, even without a traditional ceremony.
When they replied in the negative, Kyle added: ‘That’s a s*** situation, I think.’
Jackie said she wasn’t upset about the decision, and Kyle concurred, but pointed out that it still reflects poorly on the industry.
He clarified he wasn’t upset about avoiding the event, but worried it sent a negative message about the health of the media industry as a whole, making it appear to be struggling.
Despite everything, the annual hairdressing awards ceremony still takes place. It’s important to acknowledge and celebrate success.
Kyle and Jackie are well-known and highly respected in the ACRA awards, as they were honored with a Hall of Fame induction in 2022.

This dynamic duo has been recognized with the ACRA Award for Best On-Air Team an impressive eight times – more than any other team. Their show has earned a total of 28 awards overall.
On Thursday, CRA CEO Lizzie Young announced the cancellation of the awards show, explaining that rising costs were the reason for the decision. The show was the industry’s largest annual event.
She stated that making our industry sustainable for the future should be our top concern.
Continuing, Ms Young said that axing the awards event was a decision not taken lightly.
Okay, so I was *listening* to what she said, and it’s amazing! They’ve really decided where to focus all their energy – on things like Sound Start, CRA Audio ID, and HEARD, which are honestly game-changers. And they’re fighting for radio’s future, especially with this ‘Radio Prominence’ thing – it’s like they’re *finally* getting it and putting everything into making sure radio thrives! I’m just so excited to see what happens next, it feels like a huge turning point.
As a long-time fan of this industry, I’ve noticed that so many different groups are constantly highlighting the incredible achievements of people within it – each one running their own awards and celebrations, which is fantastic to see!
Ms. Young explained that proceeding without the event would strengthen the industry’s stability.
As a long-time radio enthusiast, I truly think radio in Australia is set for a fantastic future, and we’re in a perfect spot to help make that happen. I’m really excited about what’s to come!
In April, the Country Radio Association said the 2025 ACRA Awards were cancelled, but people in the industry are optimistic the awards show will be back in 2026.
Okay, so everyone always compares the Logies to the ACRAs, but honestly, the ACRAs are *the* night for Australian radio! It’s when they celebrate all the amazing talent and everything that makes Aussie radio so brilliant. It’s a huge deal, a real party for the best in the business, and I’m obsessed with it!
The Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs) are different from the Logies because they aren’t shown on TV. They’re known for being relaxed and lively events, with free drinks and a lot of awards given out.
Kyle and Jackie were major winners at the ACRA Awards in Sydney last October, even though they didn’t attend the ceremony.
