The Godfather trilogy lands a new UK streaming home – but it’s not exactly as you remember it

Good news for fans of *The Godfather*: all three movies are now available to stream in the UK. However, be aware that the versions you’ll find aren’t quite the same as the originals. Here’s a breakdown of what’s changed.

This film series, adapted from Mario Puzo’s 1969 novel, follows the Corleone family, a New York City crime family, as they gain power and influence within the American Mafia.

Francis Ford Coppola directed and co-wrote all three films, released in 1972, 1974, and 1990. The movies starred a remarkable cast including Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Robert Duvall, and James Caan.

Many film fans consider *The Godfather* trilogy to be among the best ever made, and now all three movies are available to stream on Netflix in the UK, starting today.

The first two *Godfather* movies will stay the same, but the third film will be a revised version. Instead of the original *The Godfather Part III*, Netflix will offer *The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone*, which was re-released in 2020.

Although this version of the film has a new title, it’s largely identical to the original. The beginning and end have been slightly altered, and the music has been adjusted in a few places. The new cut is a bit shorter, running 158 minutes instead of the original 162.

This revised version is what Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola consider their ideal cut of the film. Coppola explained that with the changes, restored footage, and improved sound, it feels like a more fitting ending to both *The Godfather* and *The Godfather Part II*.

The series has been highly praised and has won nine Academy Awards out of twenty-eight nominations. The first two movies in the series both received the Best Picture award, and the third was also nominated for that top prize.

Rotten Tomatoes scores show a noticeable difference in how well the *Godfather* films were received. *Part III* has a 66% approval rating, while the first two films scored much higher at 97% and 96% respectively. Interestingly, *The Godfather Coda*-the revised version-received an 86% approval rating, which is better than the original cut.

Now that *The Godfather* movies are on Netflix, *The Mercy* will be leaving soon. The British biographical drama will no longer be available to stream after October 4th.
