Warner Bros. released a new trailer for the upcoming *Mortal Kombat II* movie, a sequel to the 2021 film based on the popular video game. The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 15, 2026.

What happens in the new Mortal Kombat II video?

A new behind-the-scenes video shared on X features the cast of the upcoming sequel – including Karl Urban, Hiroyuki Sanada, Lewis Tan, Martyn Ford, and Adeline Rudolph – talking about the movie’s intense action, grand story, and larger scope. They hinted at how impressively the film brings the characters’ signature finishing moves to life. Hiroyuki Sanada also shared his thoughts on Karl Urban’s performance as Johnny Cage during filming.

The latest installment in the hugely popular Mortal Kombat video game series, Mortal Kombat II, is here from New Line Cinema. This time, beloved characters-including the addition of Johnny Cage-face off in a fierce, over-the-top battle to defeat the evil Shao Kahn and save Earthrealm from destruction.

Simon McQuoid directed Mortal Kombat 2, with a screenplay by Jeremy Slater. The film brings back Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion and Hanzo Hasashi, Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, and Max Huang as Kung Lao. New to the cast are Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Melissa Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Dave Bautista as Emperor Shao Kahn, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Desmond Chiam as Jerrod, and Ana Thu Nguyen as Sindel.
