Spice Girls’ Mel C joins forces with Rebel Wilson for ‘ultimate girl power movie’ after the director became embroiled in a legal war

Melanie C, known for her time in the Spice Girls, will appear in a new film directed by Rebel Wilson, even after Wilson recently faced a legal battle. The movie is being described as a celebration of female empowerment.

Singer Alesha Dixon, age 51, will star in the new movie ‘Girl Group’ with Shaznay Lewis from All Saints and Ashley Roberts of the Pussycat Dolls.

Sheridan Smith, known for her role in the ITV true crime series *I Fought The Law*, will also appear in the movie.

As reported by Deadline, Rebel Wilson is set to write, produce, and star in a new comedy film, and filming has already begun.

In the movie, Rebel Wilson will play a pop star who gets kicked off her band’s reunion tour and is ordered to do community service as a result.

Still chasing her dreams, she comes back to coach a team of unconventional teenage girls, hoping to prepare them for an audition that could launch their careers with a major record label.

Things don’t always work out as expected. When she challenges them too much, she’s confronted with the harmful problems within the music industry, as well as her personal struggles.

Rebel has said it’s the ‘ultimate girl power movie‘.

She shared that after working on the Pitch Perfect movies, she’d always dreamed of making something with a similar feel.

This movie is a lively and energetic blast that will have you singing and dancing on your way out of the theater.

After a difficult legal battle, the actress is hoping her new project is more successful than her first time directing, a film called ‘The Deb’.

Those working with Rebel Wilson on her movie, ‘The Deb,’ claim she’s intentionally delaying its release in an attempt to purchase their shares for less money.

Three lawsuits have been filed against her due to the film’s delayed release, and Charlotte MacInnes, the film’s star, is threatening to sue for defamation.

Rebel Wilson, known for her role in Pitch Perfect, is facing a defamation lawsuit from three producers of the film in the United States. Additionally, the production company AI Film is pursuing a legal claim for damages in the New South Wales Supreme Court.

The Deb was a collaboration between AI Film and Wilson’s production company, Camp Sugar. Wilson directed the project and also starred in it.

Wilson and AI Film created a company called Dunburn Debutantes Commissioning Company (DDCC) to own the rights to ‘The Deb’ and share any profits it generated.

The project fell apart in mid-2024 after Wilson reportedly posted offensive comments about producers Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron, and Vince Holden on Instagram.

Rebel publicly accused three people of sexual harassment, stealing money, and preventing her first film from being shown in theaters. They strongly deny all of these claims.

AI Film is suing Wilson in an Australian court, claiming he intentionally tried to harm their business and damage their reputation, as stated in legal documents filed with the NSW Supreme Court.
