I’m All-In On America’s Got Talent’s Season 20 champion, But Did Mel B’s Comments Affect One Performer’s Early Elimination?

Okay, folks, let’s talk about last night’s *America’s Got Talent* finale. If you haven’t watched it yet, be warned – I’m about to dive into spoiler territory! You can catch the full episode streaming tomorrow if you have a Peacock subscription, but for those who’ve already seen it, we can discuss all the surprises and the winner!

The 2025 season of *America’s Got Talent* has come to a close, but this season was special – and not just because Mel B returned as a judge. Reaching 20 seasons is a huge accomplishment for any show, so the finale began with a big celebration featuring all the finalists. The night culminated in the announcement of a winner, who received a $1 million prize and a Las Vegas performance opportunity.

I was surprisingly pleased with who won, but during the announcement with Terry Crews, I recalled something Mel B said the previous night that could have impacted another performer’s chances of winning. But first, let’s focus on the good news!

Jessica Sanchez Wins America’s Got Talent

As a big fan of AGT, I rarely find myself hoping a singer takes the win – there are shows like The Voice and American Idol specifically for that, you know? But Jessica Sanchez really deserved it! She gathered enough votes to beat out Chris Turner and Jourdan Blue, and honestly, it just felt like everything came together perfectly for her. I was genuinely happy to see her win, especially considering how strong the competition was. Richard Goodall from last season was another exception, but this year, I was all in for Jessica.

Jessica Sanchez is an amazing performer with an inspiring story! Before captivating audiences in Season 20, she wowed viewers as a semifinalist on the first season of *America’s Got Talent* back in 2006 – and she even performed live while nine months pregnant! Congratulations to Jessica!

To be honest, the finale wasn’t very surprising. Here’s how the contestants ranked after all the performances on *America’s Got Talent*:

  1. Jessica Sanchez
  2. Chris Turner
  3. Jourdan Blue
  4. Leo High School Choir
  5. LightWire
  6. Team Recycled
  7. Micah Palace
  8. Steve Ray Ladson
  9. Sirca Marea
  10. Mama Duke

I was hoping Sirca Marea would place higher since they aren’t a musical group, and it was surprising to see the Leo High School Choir get more votes than LightWire. Overall, the final results are pretty much what I anticipated. However, I do wonder if Micah Palace would have received more votes if Mel B hadn’t made a comment immediately after his performance.

What Mel B Said About Micah Palace

Before the live voting began on *America’s Got Talent*, rapper Micah Palace performed “Spanglish” and “No Sabo.” While I felt his dancers sometimes distracted from his rapping, Simon Cowell was clearly happy with his golden buzzer pick. When it was Mel B’s turn to share her thoughts, she said this to Micah:

I’m not sure I completely followed what you said, but the energy was great. I just want to offer a little advice: be kind to everyone – the whole team, including those who help you with your appearance. You’ll encounter them again, so it’s best to treat them well from the start.

Mel’s comments were unexpected, as I hadn’t seen any evidence of Micah Palace being unkind to others in the footage. Her words probably wouldn’t have been remembered if Simon Cowell hadn’t reacted so strongly, and he told the performer:

Excuse me, I need to say something. I’ve noticed you, Micah, working behind the scenes, and this is just my opinion. You’ve always been kind and respectful to everyone, so what happened was completely inappropriate.

While viewers at home don’t experience *America’s Got Talent* the same way the judges do, Mel B’s comments and Simon Cowell’s reaction were what everyone really remembered about the performance. Even Terry Crews trying to keep the show moving couldn’t overshadow that moment.

People on X had very strong opinions about Mel, with some agreeing and others disagreeing. It really seemed like Micah Palace was being unfairly treated on *AGT*, and many felt voters wouldn’t get to see enough of his performances. Here’s a glimpse of what people were saying:

  • @Call_Him_Arya: “What did Mel B mean when she said Micah Palace had ‘be nice to everyone’?”
  • @sean2637: “What is Mel B hinting at with Micah should be nice to everybody?”
  • @HKoonts: “What was Mel B’s comment about?”
  • @RBurns714: “Unpopular opinion: If Micah was being rude to staff and was acting like a diva, I Think Mel B has every right to call him out on it.”
  • @Truthologie: “Sorry, but that was so wretched of Mel B to do Micah Palace like that ON LIVE TV!”

It’s hard to know if Micah Palace would have ranked better if Mel B hadn’t said what she did. Jessica Sanchez, Chris Turner, and Jourdan Blue all had strong performances, and I would have been shocked if anyone other than them made the Top 3. But you can check the results and decide for yourself.

I’m so thrilled for Jessica Sanchez and everything she’s accomplished – her amazing performances, winning the finale, and now getting ready to welcome her baby girl! This season of *America’s Got Talent* was incredible, marking a huge milestone for the show. But don’t worry, *AGT* will be back! They’re already holding auditions for Season 21, so if you’ve got a talent, now’s the time to try out!
