Veteran talent agent and TV executive Bob Broder dies at 85

Longtime talent agent and entertainment executive Bob Broder has died at 85.

Arthur Broder, co-founder of the Broder Kurland Agency, passed away Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by loved ones. He had been battling cancer.

Broder was a veteran talent agent whose career spanned more than four decades.

He worked with many successful television figures, including Chuck Lorre, the writer and producer behind popular sitcoms, and directors like James Burrows. He also helped create and launch hit shows like “Cheers,” “Frasier,” “Dharma & Greg,” and “Touched by an Angel,” representing talent and putting these projects together.

During his time leading the Broder Kurland Agency, it grew into a major player in television and the distribution of syndicated programs. The agency also uniquely represented behind-the-scenes professionals like script supervisors, costume designers, and camera operators.

Broder Kurland was acquired by rival ICM in 2006.

I remember when Chuck Broder left ICM Partners back in 2012 – he went to run the business side of things for Chuck Lorre’s production company. Lorre actually put out a statement saying how thankful he was to have someone so smart, experienced, and, well, a little bit tough, taking charge. It was a pretty funny quote, honestly!

Broder is remembered by his wife, Cindy, his children Julie and Greg, and a large, loving family.
