The cast of Dawson’s Creek got back together on Monday after 22 years, but James Van Der Beek wasn’t there.
I was so disappointed to hear that the actor, who bravely shared his stage three colorectal cancer diagnosis last November, had to pull out of the event at the last minute. He wasn’t feeling well, and it was just hours before he was supposed to appear. I’m sending him all my best wishes and hoping he focuses on his health.
Someone close to the celebrity has revealed how upset he is about having to cancel his plans. They shared that he was eager for a break from dealing with his illness.
According to a source, James had been looking forward to the reunion as a welcome break and a chance to reconnect with loved ones. It was a huge letdown when he couldn’t attend.
Kimberly Van Der Beek and their six children were there to support him, and two of their kids even sang Paula Cole’s famous theme song, “I Don’t Wanna Wait,” on stage.
For a brief time, his illness overwhelmed him, but witnessing the impact on his fans and family – especially his daughters singing – was a truly moving experience. It brought him a great deal of joy, according to a source.

Although his outlook isn’t ideal, Van Der Beek is putting up a strong fight against cancer and remains optimistic about a full recovery.
Despite having difficult days, he reportedly always maintains a positive attitude and cheerful demeanor.
He’s really hoping to be fully healthy at the next reunion. He realized how much he enjoyed the last one and doesn’t want to sit it out again.
Although the star couldn’t be at the charity event, held at the Richard Rogers Theatre in New York City, a video message from them was shown instead.
But Van Der Beek’s virtual appearance sparked a wave of concern over his noticeably frail figure.
He’s recovering gradually, and while he appears weak, his family wouldn’t have been present if he wasn’t improving, according to a source.
The recovery process will be lengthy, but he’s staying positive and everyone believes he’ll be alright in the end.
The Daily Mail has reached out to Van Der Beek’s representative for comment.

Just hours before the event was set to begin, Van Der Beek announced on his Instagram Stories that he wouldn’t be able to attend.
Honestly, I was really bummed – totally knocked out by two stomach bugs at the absolute worst time! It completely stopped me in my tracks and kept me stuck at home when I needed to be out doing things.
Even though I tried everything, I won’t be able to attend. I won’t have the chance to be on stage and express my gratitude to everyone in the audience for their support, both for me and in the fight against cancer, especially when I needed it most.
Stars from the popular show *Dawson’s Creek* – including Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and Michelle Williams – reunited for a live reading of the first episode to raise money for the charity F Cancer. They were joined by fellow cast members Mary Beth Peil, John Wesley Shipp, Mary-Margaret Humes, Nina Repeta, Kerr Smith, Meredith Monroe, and Busy Philipps.
I’ve been counting down the days for months now, ever since Michelle Williams – my absolute favorite – told me she was organizing this event! It’s so exciting. As a huge fan of Dawson’s Creek, and of course, James Van Der Beek who played Dawson Leery, I was thrilled to hear he shared a message about it.
Honestly, it’s really tough not being there with everyone. I’m genuinely missing seeing my cast – they’re such a wonderful group of people, and it’s just not the same when we can’t connect in person.
I simply want to get on stage and express my gratitude to everyone in the audience for coming tonight.
I’m incredibly grateful to everyone involved in this project – the actors, the team, and all who have been so supportive. But most of all, thank you to all of you – you’re the most amazing fans anyone could ask for!
He expressed his gratitude for everyone’s contributions, saying, “I’m truly humbled by how much effort everyone put into making tonight a success. Thank you to each and every one of you.”

Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE this behind-the-scenes detail from Dawson’s Creek! I had an understudy, which is normal, but it became a whole *thing*. We were trying to find someone who’d *never* been an understudy in that particular theater before – can you imagine the pressure?! It was so specific, and honestly, a little crazy, but I was just so excited they were going to such lengths for the show!
He then welcomed Lin-Manuel Miranda as his substitute for the night, playfully suggesting his kids would think Miranda was a better choice.
After seeing Van Der Beek’s video, many concerned fans shared their sadness, commenting that he didn’t appear to be doing well.
Someone on Reddit expressed concern for a man who didn’t seem to be feeling well, noting that he has a young family.
Another said: ‘Omg I didn’t realize he’s lost that much weight from cancer, that’s scary.’
While I wasn’t a huge fan, it’s heartbreaking to see him so weak and sick, especially knowing our healthcare system let him down. Cancer is awful, and I hope he and his family are doing okay.
Honestly, seeing recent photos of him just completely shattered me this morning. I’d been trying to stay positive, telling myself he was improving based on what I’d read, but seeing him… it was just so much. I’m desperately hoping whatever treatment he’s getting is actually working, because I can’t bear the thought of anything happening to him.
