Matthew McConaughey reveals bizarre new detail about his dad’s death during sex

In his memoir, Matthew McConaughey shared that his father, James McConaughey, passed away from a heart attack while intimate with Matthew’s mother, Mary Kathleen ‘Kay’ McConaughey.

The 55-year-old actor recently shared an unusual memory about the day his father passed away in 1992.

Matthew told The Guardian that his mother requested paramedics leave her husband unclothed when they came to take his body away.

I can still see it so clearly. They wheeled him out on a stretcher, trying to hide him with a sheet, but my mom, she just *had* to see. She ran right into the driveway and yanked that sheet away. It was only 7:30 in the morning… I’ll never forget that moment.

From what I understand, they were intimate around 6:30am, and he immediately suffered a heart attack afterward.

Matthew McConaughey shared something his mother said about his father, Jim. She reportedly told him, ‘That’s Big Jim, he’s going to go out the way he lived – naturally. Don’t try to hide anything. He’s as he was, and right there, so don’t cover him up!’

He remembered the moment he learned about his father’s death. He said he was in Austin on a Monday afternoon when he received the phone call, while his family was in Houston.

My mom told me my dad had passed away, but she didn’t share the details during our first conversation. She explained what happened when I returned home.

In his 2020 book, Greenlights, Matthew McConaughey wrote that his parents had a difficult relationship, marrying and divorcing each other several times.

He fondly remembered his father as a powerfully built and incredibly strong man, someone who was both resilient and seemingly unstoppable. He joked that his dad had the health of a Norse warrior and the power of a bull.

And he said he used to believe ‘nobody or no thing could kill’ his father… ‘except Mom.’

His dad’s death propelled him into manhood, and gave him the ‘courage’ to grow up.

In an April interview with Interview magazine, he explained that fathers often seem to operate outside of normal rules. He also recalled feeling much braver as a result of something that happened.

You know, I realized I wasn’t fully committing to certain tasks, even though I *knew* how to do them. It was like I was holding back, thinking someone else would step in and fix things if I didn’t quite put my all into it. I was relying on the expectation that a more skilled person was there to back me up, and honestly, it was hindering my own effort and growth.

‘His moving on kind of gave me a kick in the caboose to have courage.’

Matthew made an appearance on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop podcast this week.

I was chatting with Matthew McConaughey recently while he was promoting his new film, *The Lost Bus*, and we got to talking about his journey in Hollywood and, so sweetly, how he first met his wife, Camila Alves. It’s always lovely to hear those personal stories behind the scenes!

I’m so excited to share that a favorite actor of mine is having a busy fall! Not only is he going to be in a new movie premiering on AppleTV+ October 3rd, but he’s also just published a brand new book. It’s a really great time to be a fan!
