The late-night world unites to celebrate the return of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

Jimmy Kimmel Live! is returning to television on Tuesday, much to the delight of late-night talk show fans and hosts, following an announcement from The Walt Disney Company.

On Monday night’s “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert announced some good news: after a break, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” will be back on ABC tomorrow, Tuesday. He called the show’s return the end of a ‘long national late nightmare.’

He followed that with a series of whooping cheers.

He said with a flourish, clutching his Emmy, “I’m the only one suffering through these late nights!” Then, looking pointedly at CBS, he added, “Or… are you guys going to make an announcement?”

You know, I was totally following the whole thing with Disney+ and Hulu. It was hilarious! Jon Stewart even gave us a shout-out on “The Daily Show.” He basically said our little campaign of *pretending* to cancel our subscriptions, while secretly binge-watching shows like “Only Murders in the Building,” actually worked! It was so funny to see everyone rallying together – and clearly, we all kept streaming! He congratulated us, which was a fun moment.

Seth Meyers continued to welcome Jimmy Kimmel back to television with a segment on his show, “A Closer Look.”

According to Meyers, there’s been widespread public disapproval of Trump’s attempts to limit free speech, even from people who generally support conservative views. While no polls were available at the time, Meyers predicted that nearly all Americans would oppose the president controlling what television hosts are allowed to say, estimating only about 3% would support it, with 97% against – a point he illustrated by playing a clip of Trump himself.

Last week, Disney temporarily took Jimmy Kimmel off the air after he made comments suggesting those associated with the “MAGA” political movement were attempting to distance themselves from a person accused of attacking Charlie Kirk, and were exploiting the situation for political gain. Disney then issued a statement regarding the suspension on Monday.

SAG-AFTRA and WGA protest the decision to pull the late-night show after FCC chairman’s threats.

After several thoughtful discussions with Jimmy over the past few days, we’ve decided to bring the show back on Tuesday, according to a statement released today.

After Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr publicly called for action regarding comments made by Jimmy Kimmel, both Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group stopped airing “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” This led to the show being temporarily taken off the air.

Comedians and celebrities from across Hollywood united in support of the comedian, staging a protest outside the El Capitan Entertainment Centre, where the show is recorded. Actors, directors, writers, and comedians joined the American Civil Liberties Union in signing an open letter, calling on the public to protect the constitutional right to free speech.

After listening to public feedback, Disney confirmed Jimmy Kimmel will be back. However, this may not resolve the issue, as Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group announced they won’t be airing “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” even if ABC does.

So, grab your bucket of popcorn, drink a cup of coffee and tune in.
