The Bride’s stunning trailer reveals “bold” new take on “one of the world’s most compelling stories”

Warner Bros. recently released a first look at Maggie Gyllenhaal’s upcoming movie, *The Bride*. The film, starring Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley, offers a fresh and unconventional perspective on a classic tale.

I’m so excited about this new movie! It’s set in the 1930s and it’s basically a fresh take on the classic *Bride of Frankenstein*. Christian Bale is playing the Monster, and the story follows him as he goes to Chicago hoping a brilliant scientist, Dr. Euphronious – played by Annette Bening – will create a partner for him. It sounds amazing!

Okay, so basically, my friend and I brought this girl back to life, and that’s when things *really* got crazy. We ended up with this woman, The Bride, and honestly, it spiraled out of control. We’re talking murder, someone getting possessed, a totally unexpected cultural revolution, and this super intense, forbidden romance. It was way more than we bargained for, let me tell you!

Did we also mention it’s a musical?

Based on the trailer, *The Bride* appears to be a blend of the styles seen in *Chicago* and *Bonnie and Clyde*, but with elements of a traditional monster movie.

The trailer shows Buckley’s Bride tumbling down the stairs, followed by her questioning in a voiceover: “Have I changed since the accident?”

While a scene shows the Bride being resurrected in a laboratory, Bale’s character declares: “This wasn’t an accident. We did everything intentionally. Now, all that’s left is to live.”

After their wedding, the couple set off on a journey, and a glimpse of a newspaper reveals a wanted ad: ‘Dangerous monsters sought’.

The new movie features a talented cast including Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, Julianne Hough-who you may know from *Dancing with the Stars*-and Jake Gyllenhaal, alongside Bale, Buckley, and Bening.

Maggie Gyllenhaal not only directed *The Bride*, but also wrote and produced it. The film was originally planned for release this October, but will now premiere in theaters on March 6, 2026.

As a huge monster movie fan, I’m so excited to hear that Guillermo del Toro’s take on *Frankenstein*, with Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi, is coming to Netflix worldwide on November 7th! It’s a relief to know we’re finally getting it.

The Bride is released in cinemas on March 6, 2026.
