Just weeks before announcing her separation from husband David Peet, Ruth Jones revealed the significant steps she had taken to lose 4.5 stone.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve noticed a lot of buzz around Alison Steadman lately! The wonderful actress, 59, has been looking fantastic, and openly shared back in May that she and her husband, David, have decided to go their separate ways after 26 years together. It’s always inspiring to see people navigating life’s changes with grace and prioritizing their well-being.
Ruth recently revealed her weight loss at the National Television Awards and has been honest about her efforts to get in shape.
The actress revealed in a recent interview that she worked with hypnotist Paul McKenna to help her stop craving chocolate, which she described as her biggest weakness.
She admitted she was initially skeptical. She described a mental exercise: picturing something you dislike, then immediately switching to thinking about chocolate, and repeating that back and forth.
I’ll never forget when mushy peas showed up on the school lunch menu! It sounds strange, but it actually worked for me. I managed to go five whole years without eating any chocolate – I honestly couldn’t even *stand* the smell of it after a while!

Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE this! Ruth actually thought she was *done* with Paul Hollywood! She seriously unsubscribed from his email list – can you imagine?! – because she thought she’d finally conquered her obsession with his baking. It’s like she thought she was ‘cured,’ and honestly, it’s amazing to hear she’s moved past it… though a tiny part of me is devastated she’s not signing up for his newsletters anymore!
After announcing her breakup with David in May, Ruth celebrated winning the NTA for Best Comedy. She wore a sparkling burgundy dress while accepting the award for the popular final episode of Gavin and Stacey.
The Daily Mail reported that David had moved to Canada to be with Jayne Charity Cook, who works in education. However, both David and Ruth stated they remain close friends.
Her friends in the entertainment industry were shocked by the breakup, as they had always considered her marriage to be very stable.
Ruth previously revealed she lost 4.5 stone in 2011, explaining it took her 22 months to shed the weight she gained on vacation.
Ruth realized she needed a change after a vacation a few years ago. She confessed, ‘I came back in January 2010, and it’s easy to go overboard when you’re on holiday, isn’t it?’
I had a sudden realization – it was time to make a change for myself. I knew if I didn’t act now, I never would, and I’m glad I didn’t hesitate.
Ruth explained that she didn’t rely on trendy diets or overly restrictive eating. Instead, she focused on controlling how much she ate and the number of calories she consumed.

In a 2019 interview with The Express, she revealed it took her 22 months to lose four and a half stone. She explained that despite trying many diets before, she finally succeeded by simply consuming fewer calories than she burned.
Ruth had a daily intake of 1,250 to 1,500 calories when she attempted to lose weight.
Over the past few months, Ruth has been seen in public several times without her wedding ring. This included an appearance at the Bath Literary Festival in May, where she discussed her latest book, ‘By Your Side’.
Oh my gosh, you guys, after *Gavin & Stacey* ended (still not over it, honestly!), I found out that Ruth Jones and James Corden are working on a *new* show! And it’s for Apple TV! I’m already counting down the days – anything those two create is pure gold, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next. Seriously, I’m so excited!
According to Deadline, the upcoming show, titled ‘The Choir,’ tells the story of two siblings, Ben, played by James Corden, and Lisa, played by Ruth Jones, who have been separated for some time and are now reconnecting.
Ben, who feels like an outsider, unexpectedly finds himself back in his hometown in England, where his sister and her family reside. He’s returning to a life he didn’t choose after spending time living overseas.
The series will be split into six parts and James and Ruth will also serve as executive producers.
