Perrie Edwards says her world ‘crumbled’ after losing baby at 22 weeks because ‘there had been no signs’ as she bravely talks about traumatic experience

Perrie Edwards says her world ‘crumbled’ after losing a baby some five months into her pregnancy.

Perrie Edwards, from the group Little Mix, is getting ready to have her second baby with her fiancé, footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. They had their first son, Axel, four years ago.

Becoming a mother hasn’t been easy for Edwards, 32, who recently shared on the ‘We Need To Talk’ podcast that she experienced two miscarriages – one before and one after becoming pregnant – and is still grieving those losses.

The singer, who is getting ready to release her first solo album, shared that her intense sadness was made even harder when she realized her body was still producing milk several days after experiencing another loss.

In a recent interview with Glamour, she described the moment they found out as completely unexpected. All previous scans had been normal, so they were shocked when the 22-week scan revealed the difficult news, completely changing everything. She said the entire experience was deeply traumatic.

A few days after giving birth, I was in the shower when my breast milk finally started flowing. I immediately called for my mom, and when she asked what was wrong, I excitedly told her, “I’ve got milk!”

She said, with a sort of resigned tone, that she’d been warned this might occur. Still, I was completely unprepared and absolutely heartbroken. That moment was the most difficult part of everything.

‘My body was prepared for the baby, but the baby was gone.’

I truly believe my fiancé, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, has been my rock through everything. He’s such a grounded and practical person – having played for England 35 times, he really knows how to handle tough situations – and he’s been incredible in helping me cope with my loss. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without him.

I truly believe we’re incredibly fortunate to have found each other. We share such a deep love. He was just so concerned about me, and I think what really bothered him was feeling helpless – like he couldn’t fix things or take charge of the situation.

Just having him there with me, supporting me throughout everything, made a huge difference. I kept checking on him, asking if *he* was alright, and he’d insist it wasn’t about him, but I knew it was. We both experienced this loss, and we were both hurting.

I’ve noticed he really bottles up his feelings, always trying to just deal with things and get past them. But honestly, I could tell this really affected him deeply – he was clearly traumatized. I think he was just trying to be strong for my sake, you know?

Life is a whirlwind right now! I’m so excited to be expecting my second child, and on top of that, I’m finally getting ready to share my debut album, ‘Perrie,’ with all of you. It’s been a long time coming, and I can’t wait for you to hear it!

With her upcoming album release, she’s the last member of Little Mix to begin a solo music career, following releases from Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall, and former bandmate Jesy Nelson – all of which had different levels of success.

She says her bandmates fully support her, and they’re also close friends.

It’s amazing how close we are. We genuinely care about each other’s success and happiness. We always stay in touch and rely on each other for support and advice.

It’s great to explore individual creativity and see how unique we all are. But I believe Little Mix was so successful because those individual differences – our varied personalities and tastes – actually complemented each other and made the group stronger.

I’m hearing that my new album, also called ‘Edwards,’ is dropping on September 26th! And, I’ve given a little nod in one of the songs to Jesy Nelson’s exit from Little Mix – it’s a topic a lot of people have been talking about, and I wanted to acknowledge it in my own way.

She explained that ‘Same Place, Different View’ was the hardest song to write. It was a very personal song about someone else, and she was careful about how she expressed herself in the lyrics.

This song is about a lost friendship-one that used to be very close but isn’t anymore. We often talk about romantic breakups, but it’s rare to discuss how painful it can be when a friendship ends. Losing that friend felt like losing a part of myself.

We were inseparable. I spent every day with her, and we did everything together. We were incredibly close and considered best friends.

‘To then not have her in my life anymore was a big thing for me. I found it really hard to adapt.’

The latest issue of Glamour is out now.
