Don’t believe the hype about Gavin Newsom suspending Kid Rock

Recently, there’s been a lot of controversy where politics and entertainment collide. A good example is Jimmy Kimmel, who was temporarily taken off the air by ABC after making a statement about the person responsible for the death of Charlie Kirk.

This situation is relevant because it involves a public disagreement between California Governor Gavin Newsom and musician Kid Rock. They’ve been arguing for some time, but Kid Rock often appears less informed on political matters than Newsom.

Separate from Gavin Newsom’s official account on X, an account called Governor Newsom Press Office has been posting in a style similar to Donald Trump – with intentionally bad capitalization, grammar, and exaggerated statements.

Gavin Newsom suspended Kid Rock from California is not what it seems

You might be surprised to learn Gavin Newsom doesn’t spend a lot of time personally engaging in social media arguments. It’s easy to mistake his official account for posts made by his Press Office – they’re separate entities.

The Press Office recently tweeted that Kid Rock had been “suspended” from performing in California, as a response to news about Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension from ABC. This tweet was meant as a joke, but many people misinterpreted it as a real suspension of Kid Rock.

That’s a core problem with social media today. It’s become hard for many people to tell the difference between what’s real and what’s fake. We’re constantly surprised by things that would have seemed unbelievable just a few years ago, but now turn out to be true.

It’s easy to believe things that seem unbelievable, simply because the world often *is* strange and unexpected. We readily accept oddities because they fit right in with everything else happening around us.

Okay, so I was checking on whether Kid Rock got banned from playing shows in California, and as of right now, he hasn’t been! If he does end up playing a show in Los Angeles, I could technically go, but honestly? The official press account is right – his music is pretty terrible. Just being real!
