Baby Yoda fans rejoice: The first trailer for “The Mandalorian and Grogu” is finally here.
On Monday, Walt Disney Studios shared a new trailer for the next “Star Wars” movie, giving fans a first glimpse of what’s in store for Din Djarin (the Mandalorian) and Grogu. The film continues the story from the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian,” picking up after the events of its third season, which aired in 2023.
The new trailer features lots of heartwarming scenes of Grogu, the beloved young Force user, being playful as he explores a spaceship, enjoys snacks, and interacts with the small, often droid-building Anzellans. We also see Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu teaming up to destroy an AT-AT, attending a spectacle at a Hutt arena, and encountering Sigourney Weaver’s character, a New Republic colonel named Ward. Ward doesn’t appear thrilled when Grogu tries to steal her snacks.

Tony Gilroy, who created and oversaw the latest season of ‘Andor,’ worked with his brothers Dan and John to complete it. Dan wrote for the ‘Star Wars’ series, while John helped as an executive producer and editor.

Disney released the trailer while facing increased attention after suspending late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. Last week, ABC announced it was putting “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on indefinite hiatus because of comments Kimmel made following the death of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk. These comments upset Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr and drew criticism from station groups Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the teaser trailer for “The Mandalorian and Grogu” was originally scheduled to be released last week.
ABC’s decision sparked online criticism, including calls to boycott and cancel subscriptions to Disney+ and Hulu. Many people felt the new trailer was meant to divert attention from the company’s recent issues. Disney has announced that “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” will be back on Tuesday.
The first “Star Wars” film to appear in cinemas since 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker” is coming on May 22nd. It’s titled “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu” and is directed by Jon Favreau, who also created “The Mandalorian” series.
