Howard Stern strongly criticized ABC and Disney for suspending his friend, Jimmy Kimmel, expressing his anger over the decision.
After Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, was temporarily taken off the air, the well-known 71-year-old radio host finally spoke out on Monday morning.
Stern started by saying he couldn’t stay silent any longer. He felt he had to speak up because things were spiraling out of control.
The well-known broadcaster, who is famous for saying exactly what he thinks and often sparking debate, announced he’d cancelled his Disney+ subscription as a form of protest.
Stern stated that someone needs to firmly object to Disney’s actions. He explained that, as a personal protest, he cancelled his Disney+ subscription, hoping to demonstrate his disapproval of how they are handling the situation with Jimmy.
Stern confirmed he’d talked to Kimmel after the suspension, but said he only checked in on how Kimmel was doing personally, and didn’t ask about his job at ABC.

Stern emphasized that government intervention is a dangerous path for the country, especially when it attempts to suppress dissenting voices. He believes any effort by the government to silence someone because of disagreement is a step in the wrong direction.
He finished by saying he understands what ABC is going through, because he’s dealt with a similar situation before. He feels bad that ABC has to face this challenge, and believes they shouldn’t be in this difficult position.
Andy Cohen shared on his SiriusXM radio show that he was really bothered by the situation involving Jimmy Kimmel.
He argued that if President Biden were to try and revoke Greg Gutfeld’s broadcasting license, it would be a violation of free speech and an un-American act. He expressed hope that, despite what he sees as a lack of accountability from Washington D.C., justice will ultimately prevail.
The Emmy-winning host also complimented Republicans, including Ted Cruz, for defending free speech.
Actress Cynthia Nixon announced in a popular video on Saturday that she has canceled her subscriptions to both Disney+ and Hulu to support Jimmy Kimmel and the principle of free speech.
When asked for a reason, I selected ‘other’ and explained that I support the First Amendment. Bring Jimmy Kimmel back immediately,” Nixon stated.
The actress from ‘And Just Like That’ also said her family is sad to see ‘Abbott Elementary’ and ‘Only Murders in the Building’ end, but that protecting freedom of speech is even more important. She urged people to skip vacations and cancel subscriptions instead of supporting companies that might limit free expression.

Over 400 celebrities, such as Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Tom Hanks, Selena Gomez, Pedro Pascal, Natalie Portman, and Robert De Niro, have signed a letter from the ACLU protesting the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel and expressing concern about threats to free speech.
The letter stated that attempts by those in power to silence artists, journalists, and businesses through punishment for expressing their views fundamentally threaten the principles of a free society. It cited the recent case of Jimmy Kimmel being removed from television after the government threatened a company, calling it a troubling sign for free speech in the country.
The letter went on to say that no matter our political views or involvement, we all care deeply about our country. It also stressed that everyone deserves to be heard, and that when anyone’s voice is suppressed, it affects us all.
Olivia Rodrigo, known for her work with Disney, publicly expressed her disapproval of the situation by sharing SAG-AFTRA’s statement regarding Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension. She called the suspension a clear example of censorship and misuse of authority.

‘I stand with Jimmy Kimmel and I stand for freedom of speech,’ Rodrigo declared.
Rodrigo first became known for her role in the Disney+ series *High School Musical: The Musical: The Series*. Since then, she’s worked with Disney+ again on her documentary, *Driving Home 2 U*.
She’s also been very vocal about her political views, publicly supporting Kamala Harris in 2024 and working with the White House in 2021 to encourage people to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
John Legend, along with actors like Josh Gad, Alison Brie, Jamie Lee Curtis, Halsey, and Henry Winkler, were just a few of the many famous people who shared their thoughts on social media.
MSNBC’s Chris Hayes described something as the most direct assault on free speech he’s ever witnessed from a government source, saying it wasn’t even a close comparison to other instances.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has expressed concern about what he sees as a deliberate effort to influence media. He pointed to instances like media ownership changes, the dismissal of commentators, and show cancellations, stating these aren’t isolated incidents but a coordinated strategy that poses a threat.
Donald Trump reacted to the suspension with a post on Truth Social, calling it “Great News for America.” He also criticized Jimmy Kimmel, calling him untalented and noting that Kimmel’s ratings are lower than Stephen Colbert’s.
Disney’s ABC temporarily stopped airing Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show just hours before its scheduled broadcast on September 17th. This decision came after Kimmel made comments during a previous episode about the death of Kirk in Utah.
Jimmy Kimmel stated that supporters of Donald Trump, or the ‘MAGA gang,’ are working hard to distance themselves from the young man accused of attacking Charlie Kirk, and are attempting to use the situation for political gain.
‘In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.’

The broadcast then showed a video of Donald Trump speaking with reporters, responding to a question about how he was dealing with Kirk’s death.
When a reporter asked how he was doing, the president said he was ‘very good,’ and then quickly changed the subject to talk about construction work being done on the White House ballroom.
‘He’s at the fourth stage of grief: construction,’ Kimmel joked.
This isn’t the way a grown person reacts to the murder of a friend. It’s more like how a young child would grieve over a pet goldfish.
Following the comments made by Kimmel two days prior, the head of the Federal Communications Commission, Brendan Carr, warned of potential consequences. In response, both Sinclair and Nexstar stopped airing his programming.
