People say she’s the reason Eamonn Holmes started smiling again after his difficult split from Ruth Langsford following their 14-year marriage last year.
Katie Alexander, an attractive woman in her forties, appeared to be just what Eamonn needed to move on after his difficult split from Ruth. He’d first met her twelve years earlier, before the breakup occurred, and she seemed charismatic and supportive enough to help him heal.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve observed a lot about relationships, and it’s interesting to note that Katie’s profession – she’s a marriage counselor – isn’t lost on Ruth’s friends. They playfully suggest she could even help *him* navigate his divorce, which just goes to show how much they recognize her expertise!
It’s been a year since Eamonn and Katie first went public with their relationship, and people close to them believe now is when they need support more than ever.
After a year filled with fun and extravagant trips – like the complimentary cruise last September, taken just four months after his split from Ruth, where he and Katie were seen starting a romantic Mediterranean getaway – things seem to be returning to normal.
A friend told me it seems like their initial romantic phase is over, and things are now ‘difficult’ for them.
Oh, it’s just… he’s been *so* difficult lately! And his back, poor thing, it’s always acting up, which I know makes everything worse. But instead of finally getting serious with Katie, you know, moving in, building a life… he’s constantly running off to Belfast to be with *his* family, and often leaves Katie behind! It’s like he’s deliberately avoiding settling down with her, and it’s killing me to watch!
‘The lavish gifts and the swanky holidays don’t seem to have made him any happier.’
Several of Eamonn’s coworkers at GB News shared a similar view, describing him as constantly complaining. One colleague even joked that he’s grumpy even when things are going well.
‘He goes into GB News in the morning, and he moans and moans,’ the colleague says.
He’s really struggling at the moment and is feeling down. The only thing that seems to lift his spirits is going to work – he genuinely enjoys it.
The extra income is certainly welcome, especially after a difficult tax dispute with HMRC left him with significantly less money than he expected at this stage in his life.
Despite struggling with his health and money, the 65-year-old appeared to be happily in love again.
Despite initially enjoying the attention that came with dating the broadcaster, Katie and her partner have been having a lot of arguments lately, causing problems in their relationship.
According to a friend, Katie enjoys the attention that comes with being famous, but it’s much harder in real life than it appears.
‘They have a very fiery and at times strained relationship.’
Last month, Eamonn and Katie, both 43, looked unhappy while watching Eamonn’s favorite team, Manchester United, from a private box at Old Trafford stadium.
Eamonn was spotted checking his phone, while his elegantly dressed partner appeared clearly annoyed.
Just before that, the two were photographed together in Belfast, and a friend said the atmosphere between them seemed quite cold.
One of the challenges is simply the distance: Eamonn has moved into a flat in Kingston, southwest London, after leaving the family home in Surrey, while Katie primarily lives in Yorkshire with her teenage children from her previous marriage to George Alexander.
Perhaps tellingly, Eamonn recently decided against buying a new property for the pair to share.
Adding to the difficulties, his work has been marked by controversy. He’s had to take time off his GB News show due to health issues, and earlier this year, a clumsy fall live on air caused disruption and embarrassment.
Eamonn is going through a difficult time, still finalizing his divorce from Ruth, and is also dealing with a disagreement with their son, Jack, who is starting his own career in television.
Jack and his father used to be very close, but now Jack is taking his mother’s side in their divorce. Additionally, Eamonn’s older children from a previous relationship are still very close to Ruth.
His relationship with Katie is said to have ‘gone down like a lead balloon’ with his family.
The relationship has been strained by claims of flirtatious online messages exchanged early on, as well as reports that Ruth discovered Eamonn had been giving Katie, who is 22 years younger, gifts before their split last May.
Both Katie and Eamonn maintain that their relationship didn’t begin until after they were both divorced.
Although many fans were surprised by Ruth and Eamonn’s breakup, people in the entertainment industry had been hearing whispers about trouble between them for a while.
Often seen as the UK’s equivalent of Richard and Judy, Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford were hugely popular presenters. They regularly hosted the Friday edition of ITV’s *This Morning*, and also filled in for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield when they were away. The couple also starred in their own Channel 5 show, *Eamonn And Ruth: How The Other Half Lives*.
In recent years, Eamonn and his wife began to experience difficulties in their marriage. His declining health and his upset over leaving ITV in 2021 – which he felt was handled unfairly by the network – are believed to have played a role in the breakdown.
Eamonn is currently waiting for his divorce to be finalized and is also expecting funds from the sale of his former home in Weybridge, which is worth £3.6 million.
From what I understand about him, once he finishes paying off his portion of the house, it’s going to be a really big moment – a turning point, really – for both him and Katie. It feels like a weight will be lifted, and they can finally move forward with new possibilities.
According to a source, Eamonn will soon demonstrate whether he’s truly committed to a long-term relationship with Katie, or if he’s not ready to settle down. Most people believe he won’t be ready.
Despite recent challenges, the couple appeared determined to put on a brave face. They were scheduled to attend a gala during London Fashion Week at the Troxy in east London, where Eamonn was being honored with a lifetime achievement award for his charity work. Due to mobility issues, the award was to be presented to him at his table.
Although they’re going through a difficult time, people close to the situation say Katie will definitely be at Eamonn’s side. It’s unclear, though, how long she’ll stay with him.
A friend recently commented that people have been suggesting he’s making a mistake, and it sounds like he’s finally realizing that himself.
