He is best known for his role as beloved dad Mick in the nation’s favourite sitcom Gavin & Stacey.
Last week, Larry Lamb accepted the Best Comedy award at the National Television Awards with his co-stars, Ruth Jones and Alison Steadman.
Even though the show everyone loved on BBC finished last Christmas, I was so relieved to hear that our 77-year-old star has no intention of retiring! He says it would be ‘terrible’ if he did, and honestly, I completely agree. We need him!
Oh my gosh, he said it! He *doesn’t* want to just slow down and get boring, he wants to keep creating and making everyone absolutely lose their minds with his work! It’s everything I’ve ever hoped for! He just *wants* to keep giving us amazing things, and honestly, that’s all I need to know. I’m living for this!
In an interview with The Daily Mail, alongside his son George, 45, while promoting Ecover’s new plastic-free dishwasher tablets, he shared that he doesn’t want to become inactive and simply sit around doing nothing.
I’m a working-class person who believes my worth comes from being productive. Sadly, that’s why many working-class people – both men and women – lose hope when they’re not actively doing something.

George said he’d be very sad to see Larry retire. Larry himself admitted he’d quickly become restless and drive everyone crazy looking for something to occupy his time.
Most actors begin their careers much younger, but Larry started acting in his late twenties. Because of this, he had to work especially hard to gain recognition and finally get his big opportunity.
He recalled being in a room with many actors when he was young. An older, experienced actor was also present.
‘He’s probably my age now, and somebody said, “So what do you do when you retire?”
He explained that actors don’t usually have a formal retirement. Instead, they simply notice the calls for work stop coming, and that’s when they realize their career is over.
‘You just wait until nobody wants you anymore and you get depressed.’
I absolutely love how he refuses to slow down! He said it best – no retirement for him, just full steam ahead and keeping everyone laughing until they’re practically rolling on the floor!
I’m so excited for Larry! After publishing his fantastic first novel, *All Wrapped Up*, he’s now exploring poetry, and he’s going to be performing live for the very first time in Hereford on September 27th. I can’t wait to see him on stage!

He shared that he’s been thinking about getting older, remembering the past, and imagining the future, and he’s been expressing these thoughts through his writing – stories and poems.
George has shifted his focus away from presenting and is now dedicating his time to Wildfarmed, his business centered around regenerative farming.
George said that growing up, he wasn’t initially interested in following in his father’s footsteps, when asked about being labeled a ‘nepo baby’.
When I was very young, my dad worked a lot and was always busy. He started acting later in life, so he was building his career from the ground up.
Around the mid-1990s, as I was deciding on my career path, my dad’s acting work suddenly stopped.
My mum has always been really supportive of my choices, but she did have one condition: she didn’t want me to become an actor. To be honest, at the time, that didn’t seem like a great option anyway.
George started his career in music, managing a band, before landing a job at E4 Music in television.
He later connected with Dermot O’Leary, who helped him find an agent. This led to his role hosting Big Brother’s Little Brother.
He explained that after replacing Dermott, his career really took off. Around the same time, his father received a call from Alison Steadman about a small show being produced by BBC Wales.
They didn’t have a big budget, but they really wanted him to play the husband – they seemed like nice people, and I encouraged him to take the role. He was hesitant at first, but thankfully, he ended up agreeing to do it.

You know, it’s been amazing watching both of our careers take off at the same time. It created this incredible synergy where we could really collaborate and create some truly exciting things together. It felt like perfect timing, and I’m so grateful for those opportunities.
He explained that he’s very much like his father and is thankful for everything his father has done for him.
‘But I feel like whatever I’ve got I’ve kind of earned.’
Larry agreed, explaining, ‘He’s always been independent and resourceful. He even started a hamburger stand behind the school – the only student to do so, considering it was a vegetarian school!’
Ecover has partnered with a dynamic duo for its newest campaign, celebrating the launch of its innovative plastic-free dishwasher tablets – a first in the industry.
They’ve teamed up with The Tetris Company to help people stop wasting water and energy while doing dishes, addressing the growing frustration many feel about this chore.
Larry explained that the game isn’t just a throwback to the fun of 90s arcades. It’s designed to be a family activity, encouraging some playful competition, and highlighting how everyday tasks – like doing the dishes – can actually help conserve water and energy.
I’m definitely more of a planner when I build with blocks, carefully stacking things up, while my son just likes to pile everything together – and that’s what makes it enjoyable! Ultimately, it’s all about playing with the toy the way it’s designed to be played with.
Oh my gosh, you HAVE to check out Ecover’s website, Ecover.com! Not only can you play Tetris: Fully Loaded (I’m seriously addicted!), but you can also learn all about their amazing new All In One Dishwasher Tablets. Seriously, they’re a game-changer… just like Tetris! You won’t regret it!
