James Gunn Gives Wonder Woman DCU Casting Update

James Gunn has provided a casting update regarding the DCU’s Wonder Woman.

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures recently confirmed they’re working on a new Wonder Woman movie. While a script is being written by Ana Nogueira, they haven’t announced who will play Wonder Woman or who will direct the film yet.

What did James Gunn say about Wonder Woman?

In 2024, James Gunn was asked for his thoughts on casting a Wonder Woman taller than Batman and Superman. He jokingly replied that it would be difficult, saying he wasn’t sure where he’d find an actress who was 6’5” or taller and also a skilled performer.

Although a Batman actor hasn’t been chosen yet, David Corenswet, who will be playing Superman in the DC Universe, is very tall – standing at 6 feet 4 inches.

Someone recently asked James Gunn on Threads whether he thought Diana (Wonder Woman) should be tall, and if he’d consider an actress under 5’9” for the role, assuming she was the best fit.

Gunn clarified that while he didn’t prioritize a specific height when choosing the actress for Wonder Woman, he never had an issue with her being taller than Superman. His main point was simply that height wasn’t the most important consideration.

Okay, so we’re still waiting on news about the Wonder Woman movie – no release date yet, and they’re keeping the story a secret! Honestly, I’m dying to know if this movie will be the first time we see Wonder Woman officially in the new DCU, or if she’ll make a cameo in something else before then. It’s killing me with the anticipation!

DC Studios is also working on a Wonder Woman series called Paradise Lost, but there haven’t been many new details released since it was first announced in January 2023.
