The cast of The Summer I Turned Pretty have talked about the show’s new movie.
The popular actors from the Prime Video series were on the Today show Thursday morning, offering a sneak peek at the upcoming movie.
News of the flick broke when the season three finale aired on Wednesday.
When asked if Belly (Lola Tung) will end up marrying Conrad (Christopher Briney) in the Summer I Turned Pretty movie, the show’s creator, Jenny Han, avoided giving a direct answer.
‘I can say there’s another big milestone for Belly, so we’ll continue with that journey,’ Han said.
The finale ended with Belly and Conrad together, and it looked like everyone was planning to move to the San Francisco area. The ending also suggested they might all come back to Cousins Beach at some point.
Han also mentioned she wasn’t ready to announce a release date for the movie. She explained it’s too early to say when it will be released, but confirmed it won’t be in 2026.
She has written a first draft for the movie already.
Gavin Casalegno, who plays Jeremiah Fisher on the show, described the series’ success as ‘surreal.’
Briney admitted he always suspected he and Belly would end up together. ‘I just had a feeling,’ he explained.
And Han talked her use of Taylor Swift songs in the series.
She explained that Taylor Swift is a fantastic storyteller, and her songs perfectly capture the feelings and emotions of the story, especially allowing listeners to understand what Belly is thinking and feeling.
Han added the movie would be the ‘final chapter’ for the show.
Han explained in a statement that a significant moment in Belly’s story deserved to be told with the scale and detail only a movie could provide.
At the end of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Belly decided to be with Conrad. Meanwhile, Jeremiah started dating someone new, and Belly’s brother, Steven, continued to develop a relationship with Taylor.
The show wrapped up with the note: ‘Maybe we’ll meet again one summer in Cousins.’
