This article contains spoilers for the Season 3 finale of “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
This week’s finale of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” brought Isabel “Belly” Conklin and Conrad Fisher back together in a very romantic Parisian reunion – but their story isn’t over yet.
Just a day after the final episode of the popular series aired on Prime Video Wednesday, the streaming service revealed plans for a follow-up movie. Jenny Han, who created the show and wrote the books it’s based on, will write and direct the film.
In a recent press release, Jenny Han announced that there’s one more significant part of Belly’s story to tell, and she believes it deserves to be told in a movie. The announcement came as a surprise during the series’ finale premiere in Paris, where Han was joined by the show’s stars, Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Gavin Casalegno.
Details about the upcoming “Summer I Turned Pretty” movie – including the plot and when it will be released – are currently being kept secret. However, fans of Jenny Han’s popular book series are speculating that the movie will likely focus on a major event: Belly’s wedding to Conrad.

The creator of the popular Prime Video series understands viewers are anxious about the upcoming finale, but she enjoys keeping them guessing.
The wedding marked a joyful conclusion for the couple after a complicated three-season romance filled with both love and hardship. While the wedding was first shown in the final pages of Jenny Han’s third ‘Summer’ book, ‘We’ll Always Have Summer,’ the TV adaptation takes a different approach. Unlike Han’s typically detailed and carefully planned scenes, the show leaves Belly and Conrad’s future uncertain, ending with them back at the Cousins Beach house and Belly hinting at what might happen next.
The end credits feature a heartwarming montage called “Christmas in Paris,” showing Belly and her love interests enjoying the holidays together. A message from Han then appears, thanking viewers and hinting at a possible future for Belly and Conrad with the line, “Maybe we’ll meet again one summer in Cousins.”

The last three episodes of the popular series continue the story beyond the book’s ending, moving the action to Paris. Belly is studying abroad when a declaration of love from Conrad throws her wedding plans to his brother, Jeremiah, into chaos. The second-to-last episode features letters Conrad writes to Belly while they’re separated, ultimately leading them back together romantically.
The series concluded with a 79-minute finale where Conrad unexpectedly visits Belly in Paris a year later for her birthday. They spend a memorable day together, reconnecting like the couple in the movie “Before Sunrise,” and share a romantic night. Though they must say goodbye with tears, a significant truth is revealed, leading to a frantic race to the train station and the return of the infinity necklace – a symbol of their enduring love since the show began.

The stars of the Prime Video series, which is now in its second season, are talking about how they’re adjusting to their growing popularity. They’re also giving fans a preview of what’s coming up in the show and how it’s evolving compared to the original books.
This episode also shows what’s happening with the characters back in Cousins. Steven and Taylor are figuring out their relationship, and Jeremiah, after moving on from Belly, is starting a new romance with Denise, a former colleague. We also see that Jeremiah is becoming a successful chef.
Following the finale, many fans expressed online that Belly and Conrad’s relationship felt rushed and wanted to see more of them as a couple. They also wished the show had included key moments from the book, such as the wedding, satisfying resolutions for other characters, and a final get-together with all the Cousins.
Dedicated fans immediately started analyzing the latest episode for clues about future storylines. One TikTok user, @bookbeedani, pointed out that the repeated use of the numbers “12” and “14,” along with Christmas-themed details like a red and green dress worn by a character in promotional material, suggests a possible Christmas special could be released on December 14th.
These details suggest what might be included in a future “Summer” movie, showing scenes that weren’t in the TV series finale. This could include Susannah’s letter to Belly, a wedding for Conrad and Belly – complete with a first dance to “Stay” by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs – and a final, meaningful moment between them on the beach where so much of their story unfolded.
Han has expressed interest in continuing to create stories within the show’s world. In an interview with The Times, she mentioned that the upcoming film will be her first time directing a feature-length project, following her directorial debut with an episode focused on Conrad. The film could also resolve existing plot points and potentially set the stage for future stories centered around other popular characters, like Steven and Taylor, Laurel, John, and Adam, or even Jeremiah and Denise and their relationship.
