The Batman 2’s Matt Reeves Answers Robin’s Debut Question

Matt Reeves has hinted that Robin might appear in the next Batman movie. He recently shared that his team explored several characters as they planned the sequel. This news comes as filming is set to begin in late April, with Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Batman.

Matt Reeves doesn’t confirm or deny Robin’s inclusion for The Batman 2

In a discussion with Josh Horowitz, director Matt Reeves clarified that *The Batman: Part 2* will exist outside of James Gunn’s main DC Universe as a separate story. Reeves also shared that he and writer Mattson Tomlin considered many different characters from Batman’s past while developing the sequel’s plot.

When asked about the possibility of introducing Robin, Reeves explained that they discussed all sorts of options. He said, ‘When you’re starting a project, you explore everything – every character, every idea. That’s just part of the initial brainstorming process.’

Reeves stated that the second film will primarily explore Bruce Wayne’s character on a deeper level. He revealed that the new villain will have a personal connection to Wayne’s history, explaining, “We really wanted a villain that would delve into his past and his life. That was the driving force behind our choice. I can’t share the details yet, but we’re incredibly excited about it, and it’s something that hasn’t been seen in a Batman film before.”

The director also responded to James Gunn’s suggestion that Reeves could direct a DCU movie. Reeves explained they hadn’t specifically discussed him directing one, but they’ve talked generally about how such a collaboration might work. He added that while it would be enjoyable, his priority is finishing the story arc he started and reaching the planned conclusion for his current project.

Production on The Batman: Part 2 is scheduled to start in late April or early May, with Robert Pattinson returning as Batman. Director Matt Reeves has shared the script with Pattinson and confirmed they’re in the early stages of preparation. While spin-off shows, such as one focusing on The Penguin, are still being considered, Reeves is focused on finishing the sequel first before developing other Gotham-based stories.
