The family of Ricky Hatton, the British boxing star who died at 46, said they were shocked by his passing and believed he was at peace.
Police found Hatton dead at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on Sunday. Authorities do not believe there was any foul play involved.
The Hatton family released a statement on Wednesday sharing sad details about the star’s last days. They said he had been enjoying time with loved ones and was looking forward to what was ahead.
We were deeply saddened to hear about what happened recently. As far as we knew, Richard was doing well, even though he had faced challenges in the past.
He was looking forward to the future, with his bags packed for a trip to Dubai to announce his return to fighting. He was also planning a special celebration in Dubai, with his daughters, Millie and Fearne, as the guests of honor.
He couldn’t wait for his family to finally watch him fight live. Richard was a very loving grandfather who cherished moments with his grandchildren, Campbell and Lyla. He also hoped to enjoy more time in Tenerife.

Richard had conversations with both his family and colleagues in the days and weeks leading up to the weekend.
Richard spent Friday evening having dinner with his daughters, and he wasn’t facing life – or the weekend – by himself.
‘We are all in shock at the events that unfolded over the weekend.
Richard was discovered by his friend and manager, Paul Speak, and we are currently offering support to Paul, Richard’s parents, Ray and Carol, his children, and the rest of his family.
The incredible amount of love and sadness shared by people across the country and around the world demonstrates how deeply Richard was cherished. Eventually, remembering this widespread affection will bring us comfort and a sense of pride.
Right now, we ask for privacy as we grieve. Our main focus is taking care of Richard’s children and granddaughter and making sure they have the support they need.
The family asks for privacy at this difficult time and requests that Richard’s memory be respected. Details about a memorial service will be shared when available, but no further public statements will be made at this time. – WLR Law

After the sad news, athletes and fans from all over the sports community have shared their respect for the fighter from Stockport.
Hatton received heartfelt goodbyes from his family, including his parents and younger brother, Matthew.
On Tuesday evening, his son, Campbell, honored his father with a heartfelt message on Instagram.
Honestly, ‘heartbroken’ doesn’t even begin to cover it. People have been telling me for years that I look just like him, and I have to say, they weren’t wrong. It’s a really strange feeling, seeing someone who looks so much like you gone.
I always admired you and looked up to you in every way. I’m going to miss our laughter and all the wonderful memories we shared – I’ll cherish them always.
‘Just can’t believe we won’t have anymore. Love you dad.’
Campbell is one of three sisters. He and his sisters, Millie and Fearne, are the children of boxer Chris Eubank and his ex-partner, Jennifer Dooley.
Campbell, similar to his father, showed great potential as a boxer, but he recently retired just two months ago. This decision came after a difficult time dealing with the loss of a close friend.
Campbell’s boxing career included a notable appearance on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk fight in 2021. He achieved 14 professional wins before finishing his career with two losses.
Just weeks before he passed away, Hatton publicly announced he was coming out of retirement to fight again, with a match scheduled for Dubai this December.
The boxer had previously focused on coaching in recent years.

Ricky Hatton was a fearless and exciting fighter who won several world and British titles throughout his career, from 1997 to 2012. He became a boxing star overnight when he unexpectedly defeated Kostya Tszyu of Russia.
Friends grew worried on Saturday night when Ricky Hatton didn’t show up to a boxing match in Bolton – where one of his fighters, reportedly Jack Murphy, was competing – and after he’d already skipped a gym workout on Friday.
Ricky Hatton, recognized with an MBE for his contributions to sports in 2007, frequently discussed his personal battles with mental health issues and drug addiction.
According to boxing commentator Steve Bunce, his friend is doing well and has successfully overcome his struggles with addiction, having confronted and resolved those issues.
Lord Hatton’s estate, worth £35 million, will be divided among his family, including Campbell, Millie, and Fearne.
Hatton’s family shared that they are heartbroken by his passing, but incredibly touched by the widespread love and support they’ve received.
In a heartfelt tribute, Ricky Hatton’s parents, Carol and Ray, shared that Richard was more than just a boxing champion to them – he was simply their beloved son.
He was a deeply loved father, grandfather, and brother, and a wonderful friend to so many. Known for his warm smile and even warmer heart, he brought kindness, humor, and unwavering loyalty to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
It’s been truly heartening to see how many people Richard impacted and how much he was loved and respected.

Fellow boxing legends like Tyson Fury and Amir Khan have shared their respect and admiration for the fighter.
Tyson Fury, known as the ‘Gypsy King,’ expressed his sadness on Instagram after hearing about Ricky Hatton. He wrote, ‘Rest in peace to a legend, Ricky Hatton. There will never be another one like him. This is shocking news, especially considering how young he was.’
Amir Khan shared his sadness today over the loss of Ricky Hatton, describing him as more than just a phenomenal boxer – he was a friend, a guide, and a true fighter. Khan reflected on the mindset of boxers, noting they constantly remind themselves of their strength through rigorous training and enduring hardship.
Often, the toughest battles aren’t physical-they happen internally, within our own minds. Struggling with mental health isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s simply part of the human experience. It’s important to talk openly about these challenges, support each other, and remember that it’s okay to ask for help.
Ricky, we truly appreciate everything you’ve done. Thank you for your dedication, your impressive achievements, and your unwavering determination. You inspired us and showed us what we could accomplish.
If you’re going through a difficult time, please remember you’re not alone. Don’t hesitate to talk to someone or ask for help. We need to support each other with kindness and understanding. Rest peacefully, Ricky. You’ll always be remembered fondly.
Manchester City honored the memory of lifelong fan Hatton at their game against Manchester United on Sunday with a moment of silence before kickoff at the Etihad Stadium.
Following their 3-0 victory, Phil Foden explained he was especially motivated to score, and he did just that. He said the goal was dedicated to his family, and to everyone currently facing difficult times.
‘The lads gave it everything. It wasn’t a pretty match, but it was all for him.’

Honestly, seeing all the tributes today just…wow. It really got to me. I’ve been following City and Pep for years, and I’ve *never* seen anything like it. Ten years he’s been here, and he said himself it was the most emotional day he’s had. It just proves how much he means to the club, and how much the club means to him. It was incredible.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen a lot of public grief, and it’s always heartbreaking. I want to send my deepest condolences to the family and friends of this incredible man. Knowing he was a world champion boxer adds to the shock and sadness, and honestly, there are simply no words to adequately express the pain they must be going through right now. My heart goes out to all the Manchester United fans who are also feeling this loss – it’s a tough time for everyone.
We were very close, and I knew how much he loved Manchester City. He truly experienced all the highs and lows with the team. The moment of silence in his honor was incredibly moving, and I’ll never forget it. He was a huge City supporter.
