Tobias Ulmer’s HYACYN brand is looking ahead to the future, but for its newest clothing line, the Brooklyn-based designer drew inspiration from the past. The collection, called “STURM UND DRANG” – a reference to a passionate German artistic movement from the late 1700s – captures that rebellious spirit, reimagined with HYACYN’s unique style for the 2025/2026 season.
Ulmer explained in the collection’s notes that the collection was inspired by the ‘Storm and Stress’ movement, which was all about rebelling against established rules and traditions. He said they aimed to embody that same rebellious spirit, celebrating individuality and finding beauty in contrasting elements.
The fashion show featured a mix of styles – loose, oversized coats alongside sleek leather pieces and edgy, worn-in designs. It was a short but impactful presentation that celebrated a rebellious spirit. The front row was packed with stars, including rappers Bktherula, Rich Amiri, Destroy Lonely, and Matt Ox, along with The Clermont Twins and Honey Balenciaga.
I was really moved by Isaiah Davis’s art installation that went with the HYACYN collection. It was this incredible ‘Door Installation,’ and the notes explained it was meant to represent our personal privacy and dignity – especially when people try to control us or tell us how to live. It really felt like HYACYN was saying they’re all about celebrating what makes each of us unique and standing up for individuality, and I loved that message.
