Many fans were upset that Gene Hackman, the celebrated actor who recently passed away, wasn’t included in the memorial segment at Sunday’s Emmy Awards.
The memorial segment, celebrating notable people in television and entertainment who have died recently, included a moving performance of Vince Gill’s song “Go Rest High on That Mountain” by Gill and Lainey Wilson.
The annual Emmy tribute usually honors television stars, but this year it also remembered figures from across the entertainment industry, including Ozzy Osbourne. He was celebrated not just as a famous rock musician, but also for his popular reality show, *The Osbournes*.
Viewers pointed out that Gene Hackman, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 95, had a long and successful career, including notable television roles like his appearance in the 1965 series *I Spy*.
Warren Beatty, a two-time Oscar winner famous for his performances in classics like Bonnie and Clyde and The French Connection, is widely regarded as one of the most talented actors of his time. He enjoyed a successful career lasting more than forty years.
Outraged fans took to X to vent their frustration.

‘Where was Gene Hackman in the In Memoriam?’ one viewer asked.
Another fumed: ‘Did they leave out Gene Hackman? Ugh.’
A third wondered: ‘Did I miss GENE HACKMAN? Was he included?’
The In Memoriam segment honored David Lynch, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, George Wendt, Quincy Jones, Dame Maggie Smith, and Chuck Woolery, among others.
But Hackman wasn’t the only glaring omission.
One viewer expressed disappointment that the ‘In Memoriam’ segment omitted many people who should have been included, stating they only tuned in to watch it.
One viewer expressed outrage that Hulk Hogan wasn’t included in the Emmys’ memorial segment, pointing out his four decades on television as a reason for his omission being a ‘disgrace.’
Several other notable figures were also missing, including Jonathan Joss, Val Kilmer, Terence Stamp, Tristan Rogers, Loni Anderson, Polly Holiday, Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty, Squid Game’s Lee Joo-sil, Jeff Baena, Tony Todd, and Connie Francis.

Although the TV tribute didn’t include everyone, a complete list of names, including Gene Hackman’s, is available on the Emmys website.
Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, a classical pianist, were discovered deceased in their Santa Fe home in February. Authorities found their bodies partially mummified, suggesting they had been there for some time.
It turned out Arakawa died from Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) in their bathroom, just a few days before Hackman’s death, confirming earlier rumors.
According to the autopsy report obtained by The Associated Press, Arakawa had fluid buildup in her chest and some mild hardening of the arteries at the time of her death.
Arakawa tested negative for COVID-19 and the flu and showed no signs of trauma.
She tested positive for caffeine and negative for alcohol and intoxicating drugs.
Her carbon monoxide levels were within a normal range.

The final autopsy report for Hackman revealed he had a history of heart failure and long-term, severe high blood pressure that affected his kidneys.
Since April 2019, he had a pacemaker to help both sides of his heart beat regularly, and showed signs of a brain condition similar to Alzheimer’s Disease.
The autopsy revealed significant heart disease caused by blocked arteries and high blood pressure. The person had previously undergone procedures including the placement of stents to open blocked arteries, a bypass surgery, and a replacement of their aortic valve, according to the records.
The patient had evidence of previous heart attacks affecting a large portion of the left ventricle and the wall separating the heart chambers. A brain examination revealed significant microscopic changes consistent with advanced Alzheimer’s disease.
Hackman tested negative for Hantavirus.
Investigators now believe Arakawa died around February 12th from respiratory problems caused by a rare and dangerous virus. The virus spreads through contact with the urine, saliva, and droppings of rodents. She was 65 years old.
