As a huge fan, I was really enjoying *Star Trek: Strange New Worlds* Season 3, and while a lot of us are still catching up on the finale with our Paramount+ subscriptions, my mind is already on Season 4. It’s a bit bittersweet knowing the show will end after Season 5, and honestly, it puts a lot of pressure on the writers to really deliver and make these last seasons truly special, hopefully living up to the legacy of the original *Star Trek*. I’m cautiously optimistic, but definitely hoping they can pull it off!
I recently spoke with the showrunners, Henry Alonso Myers and Akiva Goldsman, about the Season 3 finale. After discussing characters like Captain Batel and answering some fan questions, we talked about the bigger picture – what to expect in Season 4 and how it might differ from Season 3.
Henry Alonso Myers Compares Season 4’s Overall Tone To Season 3
I really liked Season 3 of *Star Trek: Strange New Worlds*, although I thought it had a bit too much humor compared to the other elements of the show. Interestingly, I didn’t mention this to the showrunner, Henry Alonso Myers, even though he later said the next season would be much more serious.
We’re leaning towards a more serious tone with the fourth installment, but we still enjoy exploring different types of stories.
I didn’t intentionally steer the conversation this way, but the showrunners were likely aware of fan criticism regarding the comedic episodes of *Star Trek: Strange New Worlds*. Episodes like “Wedding Bell Blues,” “A Space Adventure Hour,” and “Four-and-a-Half Vulcans” were noticeably lighthearted, bringing the total number of comedic episodes in Season 3 to three. While that might not sound like much, it represents almost a third of the season’s ten episodes.
Season 4 seems to be shifting towards a more serious tone, with a greater focus on developing the characters’ backstories – like we saw with Ortega’s intense encounter with the Gorn. Given that we don’t know how many episodes we’ll get overall, I really hope the show dives deeper into these characters while it still can.
Akiva Goldsman Details The Difficulty Of Making Strange New Worlds Season 3
After Henry Alonso Myers gave a quick update on the current and next seasons, Akiva Goldsman, the showrunner for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, provided more details. He began by discussing Season 3, which was scheduled to start filming the very next day when the writers’ strike unexpectedly began.
Season 3 was really difficult. The writers’ strike and some personal losses created a lot of disruption, and we didn’t have much time to regroup between episodes. Production was constantly starting and stopping, and it was hard to maintain a consistent team. It felt a bit chaotic, honestly. But Season 4 is our strongest work yet – even though Henry disagrees! It felt much more focused and enjoyable to create. While we were always playing catch-up with Season 3, Season 4 felt intentional, well-planned, and genuinely fun.
I have to admit, it was a little disheartening to hear the showrunners talk about all the behind-the-scenes hurdles they faced with Season 3 of *Star Trek: Strange New Worlds*. But they’ve assured me those issues are behind them now, and that’s really promising. It sounds like Season 4 will have much sharper writing and bolder storytelling – they’re hinting at bigger ideas and more satisfying resolutions, which is exactly what I want to see!

Zachary Quinto, known for his role in Star Trek, is actively working to get a fourth movie made, which I find amusing.
Details about *Strange New Worlds* Season 4 are scarce, but we know there will be an episode featuring puppets. This news hasn’t eased concerns that the show might be moving away from its comedic elements, though most fans didn’t expect the humor to disappear entirely. It’s possible the show will surprise us with a surprisingly serious puppet episode, but that seems unlikely.
Following the fourth season, Paramount decided to renew *Star Trek: Strange New Worlds* for just six more episodes, intending this to be the show’s final season. While this is a better outcome than Paramount’s initial idea of ending the series with a movie, it’s still unclear if six episodes will be enough to satisfy fans and provide a proper conclusion to the story.
There’s still lots to discuss about Season 3 of *Star Trek: Strange New Worlds*, and we can catch up on everything available on Paramount+. Production for Season 5 is starting soon, but knowing it’s the last season is a little bittersweet, even though it will be a while before it’s released.
