The Netflix series “Adolescence,” which follows a 13-year-old boy accused of murder, recently won the Emmy Award for best limited or anthology series.
The four-part British series received a lot of positive attention for being filmed entirely in one continuous shot per episode.
Owen Cooper also received an award for his supporting role as the young suspect. At just 15 years old, he became the youngest actor ever to win in that category, making history with his performance.
I was so thrilled to see Erin Doherty win for her supporting role! She was fantastic as the psychologist, and her episode with Cooper – the third one in the series – was just incredible. The tension between their characters was amazing, and she really deserved the recognition.
As someone who’s been following “Adolescence,” I wasn’t surprised to hear about its incredible 13 Emmy nominations. Creator Stephen Graham, working alongside Jack Thorne, really hit on something special with this show. He said it himself – it wasn’t about any one star, but the whole cast working together that made it truly shine. It’s a real ensemble piece, and you can *feel* that chemistry on screen.

A British actor created and stars in a new Netflix series filmed in long, unbroken takes. The show explores the impact of a violent crime on a family after it happens.
I was so thrilled to see Graham and Thorne get nominated for producing the drama! And even more excited that Graham actually *won* the Lead Actor award for playing Eddie Miller – he was incredible as that heartbroken father. Philip Barantini deserved the directing win too, honestly. It’s great the show was already getting recognition, having picked up two Creative Arts Emmys for the cinematography and casting beforehand. It’s just a really well-made series!
The other shows nominated in this category were “Dying for Sex” on FX on Hulu, “The Penguin” on HBO, and two Netflix series: “Black Mirror” and “Monster: The Erik and Lyle Menendez Story.”
The excitement around “Adolescence” was similar to the buzz surrounding last year’s award-winning Netflix series, “Baby Reindeer.” That show followed a comedian whose life became entangled with a strange and unsettling woman.
