Owen Cooper is youngest to win Emmy for supporting actor in limited series

Owen Cooper continues to make Emmys history.

At just 15 years old, Cooper, known for his role in “Adolescence,” made history at the 77th Emmy Awards by becoming the youngest person ever to win an Emmy for supporting actor in a limited series. He also previously earned the distinction of being the youngest actor ever nominated for the award.

Actor Cooper gained recognition for his role as Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy accused of murder, in the Netflix series ‘Adolescence.’ The show received praise not only for its acting, but also for its unique filming style-each of the four episodes was shot as if it were one continuous take. Cooper was 14 years old during filming, and ‘Adolescence’ marks his first professional acting job.

Cooper has become one of the youngest people to ever win an Emmy Award in any acting category. Only four other teenagers have previously received this honor, and their wins happened many years ago. The youngest was Roxana Zal, who was 14 when she won in 1984 for “Something About Amelia.” Kristy McNichol won twice in the 1970s for her work on “Family,” at ages 15 and 17. Scott Jacoby (“That Certain Summer”) and Anthony Murphy (“Tom Brown’s School Days”), who won in 1973 at ages 16 and 17, complete the small group of teenage Emmy winners.

Alongside Cooper, the nominees for best supporting actor in a limited series or movie were Ashley Walters, Javier Bardem (for “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story”), Bill Camp and Peter Sarsgaard (for “Presumed Innocent”), and Rob Delaney (for “Dying for Sex”).
