Hi Glenn, just curious what you’ve been up to getting ready for tonight! I made chili and sent my husband to Trader Joe’s for guacamole and chips – it’s a must-have! – M.M.
Hey Mary, could I come over? I’m starving! I just got back from Washington where my niece, Meghan, got married to a really great guy named Tommy. All I’ve had since then is a rum and coke my neighbor gave me when I landed. – G.W.
Wow, this is going to be good! It’s amazing when Glenn is relaxed and enjoying a rum and coke – he’s at his best then. Seriously though, where do you live where people greet you with a drink after you land at the airport? – M.M.
Sadly, not Jamaica … though I’m making that a goal should be doing this next year. — G.W.
At 4:49 PM, someone questioned whether “The Pitt” could actually win Best Drama, especially with “Severance” also in the running. They acknowledged the category might have a surprise winner, but also praised the recipient’s good history of predicting outcomes. – M.M.
I voted for “Severance,” Mary, even though “The Pitt” received more nominations – 27 to 13. However, awards often come down to how people *feel*, and no show stirred up more emotion this year. I’d happily be surprised if “The Pitt” wins instead. – G.W.
It’s like you’re covering all your bases. I’m really curious to see if “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” gets an award after being canceled, and what Colbert’s reaction will be if it does. – M.M.
I went with “Severance” as my pick, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if “The Pitt” won, and I’d definitely be happy to see it happen. – G.W.
Hi Mary! It’s Emmy season again, and I’m sure you’re still hoping “Slow Horses” will win Best Drama Series. While it did win for writing, it’s a shame the fantastic “Better Call Saul” never took home an Emmy despite being nominated 53 times!
Let’s move past what’s already happened and focus on the present. Will “The Patient” generate enough buzz to win the drama series Emmy? If Jean Smart wins a fourth Emmy for “Hacks,” will she have anything new to say beyond expressing gratitude? And if Harrison Ford finally wins an Emmy for “Shrinking,” will the usually quiet actor say more than just “thank you”?
What questions are you mulling over as we await the ceremony to begin, my friend? — G.W.
Everyone is wondering how Nate Bargatze will perform as host. As I’ve mentioned before, he’s different from previous Emmy hosts because he’s relatable and avoids a flashy, celebrity image. He’s also intentionally staying away from politics, even declining to comment on the recent death of conservative figure Charlie Kirk. Considering the intense political debate surrounding this tragedy, it’s a tough spot for him, but if anyone can convince viewers that entertainment can be simply enjoyable and non-political, it’s Bargatze.
I’m still hoping Gary Oldman and “Slow Horses” will win, just like my daughters are cheering for Pedro Pascal and “The Last of Us.” I’m also excited to see Kathy Bates succeed – I really enjoy “Matlock,” and it’s wonderful to see older women getting the same opportunities as older men in acting.
